Since the season started, the parity of Class 6A has been apparent.

Yes, there's the reigning champs Owasso at the top. They returned much of the core that won the title last year and even added more firepower to their squad. So the top spot, at least till the State Tournament tips off in March, feels sewn up. The one game sample size of the State Tournament means that with Owasso being the favorite, anything is possible. Look no further than 2016 than when a Norman North squad with two future NBA players, and future D1 depth around them were upset in the title game.

Which brings the question, who could potentially be the David to Owasso's Goliath? On any given night it feels like it could be as many as 10 maybe 16 teams in a deep Class 6A. You would go insane trying to map out who beat who. Take Westmoore for Example, they won the Joe Lawson tournament with signature type wins over Norman and Putnam City North. But just a week before they were upended twice at the Edmond Open with losses to 4A Crossings Christian and Edmond Santa Fe. Pick out just about any team in Class 6A, and you can point to a 4 game stretch where they looked State Tournament worthy. Or find a swoon in their schedule that would have people questioning if they're even an Area team.

The balance throughout the class gives a real "anything is possible" feel to games this year, that will only amplify come playoff time.

Given the balance throughout the class, let's extend these rankings from 10 out to 16. Which will also match the number of teams who will still be alive come the Area round of playoffs.

Also Considered

16. Piedmont 9-7

The Wildcats showed in last week's 49-42 win over Putnam City North that they're capable of playing spoiler this year and competing with the best in 6A. Junior [player_tooltip player_id='1552326' first='Hudson' last='Hite'] has taken his game to a new level, with 30 points game and proving he's a complete guard. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='2337847' first='Bryce' last='McConnell'] logs big minutes down low, while also stretching the floor as a stretch forward. Distritc 2 is loaded, so there's more tests along the way with Norman, Moore and Choctaw. And it looks like Piedmont is headed in the right direction to potentially shake up the Class 6A playoff picture.

15. Edmond Memorial 8-8

The Bulldogs were hit by the injury bug to start the season, which led to an uneven start. The return of seniors [player_tooltip player_id='1475983' first='Brady' last='Hancuff'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2024091' first='Elijah' last='Brown'] has brought much needed size and athleticism to compete in Oklahoma's biggest classification. There's been promising signs after the break, with wins against Santa Fe, Norman, and Putnam City but also losses to Southmoore and Choctaw. So in some ways the Bulldogs are a great representation of the parity in the class. One thing is certain; no team will look forward to a playoff match up against one of the best coached teams in Oklahoma.

14. Union 11-6

Union had a frontloaded road schedule, which started with a loss at Westmoore. But so far that's been their only district loss and they'll have every opportunity to still secure a regional host. An overtime win over last year's 5A champs, Midwest City could be the catalyst to doing just that. Their guard play is among the best in Oklahoma with skilled [player_tooltip player_id='1364821' first='Triston' last='Driver'] and tough [player_tooltip player_id='1444135' first='Korbin' last='Gunn']. And they have a difference maker down low [player_tooltip player_id='1655627' first='Miles' last='Flemons']. Who along with punishing people at the rim, is a quality passer and could be a true weapon for the Redhawks down the stretch. Tomorrow they'll have a chance to avenge the opening loss, as they host Westmoore.

13. Putnam City 12-4

After a red hot start to the season, a three game swoon in January has Putnam City in need to make up ground in the gauntlet that is Class 6A District-1. A bounce back weekend in Kansas set the stages for the stretch run in District play that begins with hosting Norman North on Friday. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='2339870' first='JaColby' last='Williams'] has thrived as a sharpshooter with strong defensive capabilities. While mega athlete [player_tooltip player_id='2326939' first='Gabe' last='Osborne'] is the ringleader of an impressive sophomore class, along with [player_tooltip player_id='2326941' first='Miles' last='Jackson'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2140772' first='Mar'Quell' last='Robinson'].

12. Putnam City North 12-6

When the Panthers' talented guards are locked in, they can beat anyone in the state. Winning the Mustang Holiday Bank 7 Classic and constant whispers in the 918 of a preseason scrimmage success against Owasso show the high ceiling PCN have. But the last time they took the court, they were upset in Piedmont and have fallen off the pace for the District 2 title. Over a week off will likely serve the team well as they'll lean on seniors [player_tooltip player_id='1475985' first='Khai' last='Brown'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1391431' first='Anthony' last='Leonard'] for the stretch run.

11. Westmoore 10-5

As covered in the opening, Westmoore has quality wins and stretches where they struggle in tournament play. Importantly for them they are 5-1 in District play and a second win over Union on Tuesday would give them the inside track to a regional host. Seniors are a strong theme for the Jaguars, especially with the Barnard twins at the forefront of the squad. But unlocking the potential required for a state tournament run likely comes with the continual ascension of impressive junior wing, [player_tooltip player_id='2223702' first='Ivan' last='Antwi-Donkor'].

10. Sand Springs 12-4

A tough pair of losses at the Carl Albert tournament has the Sandites in need of a retool before a crucial district stretch that includes trips to Jenks and Broken Arrow, while also hosting Edmond North. [player_tooltip player_id='1756347' first='Deke' last='Thompson'] is one of the top available seniors in Oklahoma, with a tough shot making game, explosive ability at the rim and "A plus" defense. Their strength lies in their size around Thompson, which includes forwards [player_tooltip player_id='2024096' first='Kalil' last='Allen'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2337853' first='Blake' last='Johnson']. Winning on the glass is a potential recipe for the Sandites, especially when Thompson is around to hit tough shots.

9. Choctaw 13-7

The talent is there, but the Yellowjackets have been snakebit by recent injuries making them a hard team to judge. Especially after a pair of tough losses at the Shawnee tournament. Shortly before that, they had a breakthrough win over Moore, proving there's a State Tournament ceiling. More results like that along with the emergence of juniors [player_tooltip player_id='2223689' first='Jayden' last='Hopkins'], [player_tooltip player_id='2283661' first='Jordan' last='Valentine'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2218106' first='Steven' last='Anderson']. Throw in the rim protection abilities of senior [player_tooltip player_id='2241907' first='Millet' last='Steelman'] and they're a complete team, especially on defense. Hopefully with a little bit of health, they'll finish the season strong as their ceiling is one of the highest in the state.

8. Norman North 10-4

A fun group of sophomores and experienced seniors give the Timberwolves an "one for all, and all for one" feel as on any given night it could be a different player who carries the load. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='2472852' first='Josiah' last='Thomas'] has become a rock solid lead guard. [player_tooltip player_id='2472824' first='Hezekiah' last='Green'] does a little bit of everything, including match up with bigs on defense. Then among their promising sophomore core, [player_tooltip player_id='2140720' first='Aidan' last='Cooper-Kelley']'s toughness shines through as a tough to handle slasher. While [player_tooltip player_id='2140728' first='Carlton' last='Summers III'] is instant offense and appears to have the clutch gene with a recent game winner at Deer Creek. It's moving week for the Timberwolves when it comes to district play, as they go on the road to Southmoore and Putnam City. A pair of wins, and we could be talking about a district championship for North.

7. Edmond North 13-4

The Huskies have had recent impressive wins including a 78-52 win over Sand Springs and a 71-68 win over Norman North. But also have a head scratching 60-51 loss to Enid. Which some of it can be explained with the growing pains of replacing so many crucial pieces of their recent run. Still with a senior core of [player_tooltip player_id='1475989' first='Zayden' last='Best'], [player_tooltip player_id='1293550' first='Logan' last='Knol'] Brody Smith and [player_tooltip player_id='1413171' first='Jake' last='Weaver'], there's the upperclassmen urgency for a fifth straight State Tournament appearance. Especially with promising underclassmen [player_tooltip player_id='2439787' first='Chauncey' last='Cravens'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2677138' first='Jerrell' last='Copeland'] already playing key roles.

6. Norman 12-4

Norman keeps on producing and sit atop District 2 thanks to home wins over Choctaw and Moore. A 3-0 mark at the Titan Classic righted the ship as losing to Moore last week. Junior [player_tooltip player_id='1552322' first='Beau' last='Billingsley'] has made the jump from fun change of pace guard as an underclassman, to one of the most complete guards in Oklahoma. He teams with athletic defensive standout Montrel Combs-Piece for a strong junior one-two junior punch. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='2024092' first='Isaiah' last='Amous'] has been one of the most productive forwards in Oklahoma. A busy month of February includes trips to Putnam City North and Choctaw, which could decide the District 2 title.

5. Southmoore 13-3

Having two guards capable of going over 30 points is a good recipe for playoff wins. And that's exactly what Southmoore has with [player_tooltip player_id='2140800' first='Tyson' last='Pogi'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1552339' first='Kolton' last='Brammer']. They're two of the most skilled guards in Oklahoma, both with game changing scoring capabilities. There's talented and promising pieces around them as well. The future could be now, as proven in recent weeks when they stunned Deer Creek on the road, got revenge for an early loss to Putnam City and took down district rivals Westmoore at the John Nobles. They currently sit atop the District 1 standings with pivotal games against Norman North, Edmond Memorial and Deer Creek still to play.

4. Moore 11-5

Guard play is pivotal come March and the Lions have some of the best in Oklahoma. [player_tooltip player_id='1391441' first='Roman' last='Miller'] has been a scoring machine and Tristian Hankins makes for a heck of an one-two punch. But recent games have proven the depth they have with sharpshooting [player_tooltip player_id='2391424' first='Chance' last='Rodgers'] and do it all guard [player_tooltip player_id='2723515' first='Tez' last='Singer']. They're 6-2 in District play, and have already avenged one of those loses with a 62-40 win over Norman. They'll close out District play next month with a chance to do the same by hosting Choctaw.

3. Deer Creek 14-3

Even without their junior post presence [player_tooltip player_id='1552378' first='Phoenix' last='Woodson'], the Antlers still won the McGuinness Classic to start 2025. Woodson has returned and they handled business as they hosted and won the Bruce Gray Invitational. Along with the tournament titles, they've been the cardiac kids. Either winning in the closing moments (Yukon, Choctaw and Edmond Memorial) or suffering heart breaking losses (Norman North and Southmoore). Those two loses leave them on the outside looking in for a Regional host but the final games of the season will see them have the opportunity to earn a potential District championship with games against Putnam City, Norman North and Southmoore. With [player_tooltip player_id='1579597' first='Clyde' last='Davis'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1552384' first='Kaden' last='Leache'] making for a dynamic backcourt for a deep squad, they're more than capable of running that gauntlet to set up a home start to the playoffs.

2. Broken Arrow - 17-1

Only a loss in California to a Texas team is a blemish on an 8 deep Broken Arrow team that has all the makings of a State Title contender. Seniors [player_tooltip player_id='2241906' first='JD' last='Talley'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2024095' first='Logan' last='Shockley'] are bouncy, athletic chess pieces. With junior [player_tooltip player_id='2224276' first='Corban' last='Dow'] not far behind them in profile and impact. Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='2327117' first='Gene' last='Mason'] is one of the higher upside players in the Class of 2027. Senior guards [player_tooltip player_id='2023230' first='De'von' last='Wallace'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2409245' first='Anton' last='Wallace'] provide more depth and valuable shooting. Senior point guard [player_tooltip player_id='1391436' first='David' last='Howell'] has the athleticism and size to be a lockdown defender, while also setting up all his talented teammates. Howell reaching a new level in these upcoming weeks with improved intensity could be crucial for Broken Arrow to win their first title since head coach Beau Wallace was in school.

1. Owasso - 15-3

The champs are potentially in a tier of their own, as they've played a national schedule with wins over Texas, New York, Indiana and Kansas squads. In Oklahoma, they've held serve with a 9-0 mark and only Millwood playing them within single digits. It starts with the reigning Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year, [player_tooltip player_id='1552319' first='Jalen' last='Montonati']. Around him is a starting five of college players, including 6'10 Saint Louis signee [player_tooltip player_id='1579598' first='Jax' last='Kerr']. Senior lead guard [player_tooltip player_id='1475986' first='Kobe' last='Freeman']. And fellow juniors [player_tooltip player_id='2327598' first='Julian' last='Wilson'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1552362' first='Boden' last='Williams']. For most teams, anyone on the starting lineup would be a go to option, but for the Rams they spread the wealth with one of the best collections of talent seen in recent years.
