Dangerous off the dribble, it’s getting increasingly harder to keep Brown from getting to his spots. Hit tough turnaround and stepback shots in the mid-range. Slipped by the defense and had a great slip feed on a drive as well. Skied high to block the opposing big for his customary “where did he come from” block. Consistency has been a key for Brown, and he’s thriving this year as one of the best guards in Oklahoma.

Brown was recently offered by Redlands, and that should be the first of many as he fits the mold of recent Oklahomans who take the now more popular JuCo to D1 pipeline. Springy athlete, with great hangtime on drives. Which allows the lefty to hit tough shots in the mid-range and at the rim, which he did down the stretch of an OT win. He also hit big free throws in the extra frame to secure the win. Continues to get after it on defense, with ball pressure or swatting the occasional shot at the rim. Brown and PCN are one of Oklahoma’s red hot teams this season, and they’ll have a chance to keep their streak going tonight against Westmoore for the Joe Lawson tournament championship.

Another weekend, another example of Brown having sneaky upside as an on the ball creator and distributor.  The same athletic gifts that allow him to fly around the court as a defender and creating his own shot, have been combined with a change in his mindset.  Especially this past weekend with his team’s primary point guard sidelined, he thrived in a Saturday night victory.  Not only is Brown making the simple, unselfish passes, his ability to pressure the rim and set up teammates is leading to him making big time feeds to teammates.  If this is a building block of what he could become for the home stretch of his prep career, Brown will be a big time priority for regional college programs.

Brown once again delivered with sky walking type moves on both ends of the court.  He simply glides with the way he rises to challenge shots on defense and elevates past defender to finish at the rim.  But in a Saturday evening contest, he showed a big step forward in his game. Passing.  There’s been times in the past that Brown has looked like a blackhole on mid-range attempts and driving into crowds. Pressed with similar decisions, he made correct reads and fired great passes all over the court.  The high upside 405 guard’s game in past viewings had looked more like a two guard or even a wing.  The promise of unselfish play and good vision could be a sign that his game is about to rise to new levels during a pivotal 17U summer.

Brown makes some of the biggest “wow” plays in the class.  He’s quick off his feet, with an effortless looking bounce that makes it look he’s floating. This allows him to block shots at the rim, and have some “how did he finish that” moves on the offensive end.  When his game is on, he can look unstoppable with his smooth gathers on pull ups and the way he can glide to the basket. But there’s been something missing to his production this year, as Putnam City North has struggled this season. It’s difficult to weigh a player’s individual upside with team success and the talent is there for Brown to be one of the most unique scorers and defenders in the class.

Khai Brown Khai Brown Khai Brown 6'2" | CG/SG Putnam City North | 2025 State OK made an impact in a variety of ways tonight. He knocked down long mid-range jumpers and three pointers. He finished the game with three three-pointers, with one of them being over a defender. He showed the ability to drive the gap and to kick to open shooters multiple times. A few times he drove the gap and finished in traffic. On the other side of the court, he was able to come away with two steals. One of them led to him finishing with a dunk in transition. The other time he was able to draw the foul. It was a solid game for him on both ends of the court.

Brown was another two-way standout from the games on Thursday. The lefty made his offensive living knifing through the defense, with a combination of gliding by opponents or hesitation moves to create space. With his acrobatic finishing package, he’s quickly looking like one of the most dynamic drivers in the state.  He also was a tone setter on the defensive end, as his combination of light on his feet bounce and impeccable timing had him playing around the rim, blocking and altering shots all afternoon.  When Brown plays this hard on both ends of the court, he has the ceiling to be one of the better 2025 guards in Oklahoma.

A breakout candidate, Brown brought the energy throughout for the Panthers. He opened the game with a huge block in transition, and remained springy on the defensive end. He recorded deflections and showed off his effortless leaping ability when challenging shots at the rim. His impact on the offensive end came early when he caught fire in the first quarter, hitting a pair of threes and mid-range.  But like much of the Panther offense, he seemed to settle too often for contested looks off the dribble. There were a couple flashes of his potentially dynamic slashing ability, which gives hope that the junior guard is set for a huge season.

Another athletic guard prospect coming into his own, Brown has always passed the eye test with the ease that he moves. He’s a glider type athlete, who eats up ground effortlessly and seemingly always can get by his man in transition. Viewings this past summer also indicated he’s adding another important facet to his athletic profile. Explosiveness. There were moments of exciting above the rim play at both ends of the court, that hint he is just starting to scratch the surface of his potential.  Brown has all the tools to be among the best off the dribble attackers in Oklahoma.

After watching Brown at back to back team camps (OSU and ORU), it looks like the bouncy scoring guard is ready to make a leap from intriguing prospect to a game changing two way guard. At Oklahoma State in particular, he was effortless with his movements in gliding to the rim, while also exploding as a shot blocker in transition and as a weakside rim protector. Along with the noticeable increased athleticism, Brown is getting to his spots in the mid-range, while also knocking down open threes. It wouldn’t be surprising if the bouncy scoring guard elevates his game into the upper tier of elite 2025 guards this winter.
