Expert Analysis
Michael Schneiderman | Prep Hoops Scout
A crafty guard with some wiggle while having the ball in his hands. Second half started to go into attack mode more to get to cup. Has a good feel to change pace and speed when necessary. Able to break down defenders in 1v1 settings off the bounce to facilitate and get to second level of defense. Makes smart passes to drive and kick or swing it to keep defense moving. Plays with some flair while remaining steady.

Haney was the best player on the court and fueled his team to a comfortable victory to advance to the regionals once again and honestly, I still think Haney has another level to reach in the Convo this season. The best sequence of the game came to end the third quarter when Haney jumped a passing lane in the Big Red zone, came down and buried a pull-up 3-pointer at the quarter buzzer to extend the lead after Chillicothe made their biggest run of the game. That came two quarters after Haney hit a college line 3-pointer to end the first quarter as well. Throughout the game Haney did a nice job of collapsing the defense and finding his teammates and the Big Red have five or six guys who can score the basketball consistently Vs the opponents Steubenville will be facing the rest of their tournament run.

I like watching Haney play basketball. He has all the point guard skills and qualities that you want. He is a tough player who has a high IQ and a great feel for the game. Anytime a teammate was open on the floor he was able to get them the ball. His ability to see the floor is fun to watch. He has good quickness and knows how to score it around the rim. He also showed some great defensive hands and anticipation. He grabbed a couple of steals from his ability to jump passing lanes and deflect the pass.

One of the top players in the east district as a sophomore, Haney has continued to impress at the grassroots level with his high motor and skill level. Haney is a high-level passer who is consistently in attack mode and looking to make a play. Defensively, Haney uses his quick hands to steal the ball and isn’t afraid to make a play on the ball in traffic which leads to some turnovers and some fouls. Offensively, Haney has soft touch on floaters and jump-shots, which he had some tough buckets early in the game.

Last on this list is Haney who displayed pure point guard abilities at an extremely high level this season, being a leader on the court despite being an underclassman. I’ve heard high praise from college coaches not even worried about 2027 prospects about Haney as he checks a ton of boxes and is a winner. Steubenville won the east/southeast mega Division III district this season and Haney was the heartbeat to their success. Lots of times players from the east district fly under the radar but Haney is a name that certainly will get the attention he deserves over the next few seasons.

One of the best pure point guards in the 2027 class, Haney plays the game with experience beyond his age. A steady ball handler who makes the right play and is a team leader as an underclassman, the intangibles Haney brings to the court is very impressive. Combine that with tough on ball defense and efficient shooting from downtown and Haney is a great high school basketball player. His recruitment will take some time to take shape but I expect college coaches to love everything he brings to the floor.

Another Sophomore ID camp standout, Haney is a standout for a historic Steubenville program that went over 1,500 program wins this season. Haney got to run the show as a freshman, scoring almost 20 PPG. He’s continuing to put up impressive scoring numbers as a Sophomore but the addition of

plus the growth of Will Bowers and Cole Taylor allow the Big Red to have more options than they had last season. We’ll be continuing to monitor Haney’s development as he attempts to lead Steubenville to district and regional titles.

Haney was one of the top freshman scorers in Ohio last winter and came out and had a big evening just before he prepares to have some big evenings in the fall on the gridiron. Haney pushed the ball after rebounds and helped his team get started in transition. He also found his teammates with one lefty push pass that was high level. Combine that with his finishing ability that showed polish getting from one side of the rim to the other with jump stops and euro steps, Haney is a problem to deal with offensively. Look for Steubenville to be one of the top teams in the East district with Haney and
