-Davis’ ability to break his man down with or without a ball screen really stood out as he showcased a pretty vicious change of direction and creativity on drives to the rim. Davis scored at will on designed curls from the wing to the paint to knock down floaters, draw foul contact around the rim, or drop off to one of his bigs. Davis scored on a face cut euro step AND1 bucket, floated touch shots off the backboard on either side of the paint, had a Nash baseline drive into a smooth turn-around jumper, hit a killer sidestep three off the bounce, and put a ton of pressure on the rim in transition. His competitive fire shown through at both ends of the floor throughout the championship game as his ability to switch onto different opponents throughout possessions led to stops which led to transition buckets to retake the lead and close out the game. Expect his national stock to continue to rise as a player that seems capable of a push into the top 30 at the national level.

Thrill left Kansas City with an unblemished 4-0 record and as expected, Davis was the straw that stirred the drink. This was never more prevalent than his late-game antics to help Thrill squeak by a pesky WeR1 group on Saturday evening. Now standing more 6’0″-6’1″ than 5’11”, Davis’ competitive motor on both ends was on full display throughout the weekend. The backcourt trio of he, Samartine Hill and

wore down the opposing backcourts as the course of the game progressed with relentless on-ball defense and active hands. He takes advantage of the slimmest of driving lanes and can finish with either hand while adding craft to make the life of an opposing shot blocker quite difficult. He’s extremely confident in taking and making big shots in crunch time. All of these add to why head coach Kevin Boyle sought him out to run his team for a very talented Spire Academy group last season.

-The Baltimore native was key in Spire engineering a double digit win over Stepinac in the opening round of the tournament before an injury forced him out of the next game. Davis has become much more efficient as a downhill driver that gets off the ball quickly, flicking a live dribble pass with either hand to rollers in PnR situations or kicking the ball opposite to shift the defense. Davis hit spinning short jumpers in the paint, knocked down a 3 coming off of a drag screen, and attacked closeouts effectively from both sides of the floor. This year has been an immensely productive development experience as the head of the snake for one of the nation’s top coaches who usually doesn’t give young players this type of leash. I expect Davis to become a national name this summer as he chases a second straight UAA chip with Team Thrill .

Davis looks to be one of the top Point Guards nationally in the 2027 class with his ability to impact winning high level games. Davis has great speed and pace, allowing him to control the game more often than not. He blends playmaking for others with his own offense, staying efficient throughout. Defensively, he has quick feet, stays sound, and makes the opposition work for absolutely everything. In the championship win over Southeastern Prep, Davis finished with 12 Points, 2 Rebounds, and 2 Steals. He was in complete control while initiating Spire’s offense in a game where they slowed it down quite a bit but picked their spots in transition brilliantly. It’s not super flashy, it might not get a ton of clicks, but David is a real deal winner at the PG spot in 2027.

The event is highlighted by two games featuring nationally-ranked SPIRE Institute which will include the homecoming of scintillating lead guard Darrell Davis. A Baltimore native and Boys’ Latin (MD) transfer, Davis has slid right into the starting PG spot for SPIRE, shining with his tenacious two-way approach and boundless creativity with the ball in his hands. Davis is as quick as they come getting north-south to generate paint touches before getting into his crafty layup bag or finding windows to create shots for his teammates with slick passes. He’s a dogged on-ball defender with cat-quick hands and feet to force turnovers and ignite transition going back the other way. It’s easy to see why Davis tracks as a future high-major floor general, with upside left to tap into as he comes into his own physically.

A poised floor general who has set the table for the Spire National team all season, Davis just gets stuff done on both ends of the court. Playing with the burst and on ball juice to get where he needs to off the dribble, Davis is tough to contain at the point of attack. An impressive live dribble passer, Davis keeps his head up on drives and can skip the ball to any corner of the court. I also love the defensive ball pressure Davis provides as his winning qualities extend to both ends of the court. No surprise Davis is a nationally ranked prospect who is given such a large responsibility for one of the top teams in the country.

One of the top point guards from the DMV, Davis made the move to Spire to play on the Nike scholastic circuit and has gotten heavy playing time for Spire in their first few games. Davis is a tough point guard who doesn’t back down from anybody and has the vision and passing ability to get his teammates involved. He also contributes to winning at a high level with Team Thrill on the UAA circuit. Hoping to see Davis shoot a high % from 3-point range with Spire, it’s a key swing skill for him on the offensive end of the court.

The champion of UAA 16 U was Team Thrill and they were led at the point guard position by Davis. A lead guard who is active on both ends of the court and just finds a way to make plays, Davis is a tough defender, can really score the basketball and can set the table for his teammates. Davis makes up for his lack of size with consistent activity on both ends of the court, you really notice him out there at all times. It seemed like every time I talked with a college coach or scout who watched Team Thrill 16 U during their championship run, they mentioned how impactful Davis was for his team.

I was really impressed with Davis in a variety of ways. For starters, he’s an extremely quick processor who doesn’t let the ball stick to his hands. In the pick and roll, Davis could hit the roll or pop man for open shots. As a scorer, Davis made jumpers from across the perimeter with a confident pull-up jumper. I also liked how hard Davis played, creating some chaos and going hard after loose balls. A new name to learn for northeast Ohio fans, Davis will be at Spire this winter under new Head Coach Kevin Boyle.

The matchup against J’Lon was worth the wait. Both high major guards play didn’t disappoint. Darrell is a bouncy and athletic guard, he was excellent in getting downhill and finishing strong on several occasions, embracing contact well. Davis has a quick first step to get defenders on his hip but also shows strong handles and the ability to finish well around opponents. He was truly an impressive playmaking guard that we had a chance to be a name that will be on the national stage for the next three years at Spire Academy.
