Spire struggled offensively as a team on Thursday but Gibson was a clear bright spot on both ends of the court. Knocking down a couple early 3-pointers and getting fouled on another, Gibson’s scoring jolt helped bring Spire back into the game after a slow start. Defensively is where Gibson made his biggest impact, with three blocks and a pair of steals. When Gibson makes perimeter shots, can get downhill off the dribble and make a big defensive impact, it’s easy to see why he’s regarded as a top 10 prospect nationally in the 2027 class.

Spire had an impressive first season in the Nike Scholastic league with Kevin Boyle as their new head coach. Gibson is viewed as their top prospect as the 6’5 combo guard was a consistent producer this season. With a college ready frame, Gibson could reclass into the class of 2026 if he decides to because his overall game is very polished and well-rounded. Expect college programs to be very interested in Gibson as a 2027 or 2026 reclass.

Arguably SPIRE’s most consistent performer so far this year, Gibson was at it again with a dynamic 14-point performance to steer the win. The North Carolina product helped set the tone with his aggressiveness getting north-south off the bounce, showing an effectively unorthodox cadence to his handle and footwork that consistently kept defenders guessing. He shined on the defensive end as a lengthy and deceptively strong perimeter stopper, and also delivered the highlight of the day with a poster slam off two feet to help shut the door on Bergen Catholic. Overall, Gibson left little doubt as to why he’s a nationally-touted high-major prospect.

After a slow start from Spire, Head Coach Kevin Boyle made a few key adjustments in the break between the 1st and 2nd quarters along with an early timeout in that 2nd frame. One of those adjustments was putting King Gibson on Beckham Black and that is truly when the tide started to turn Spire’s way. The NC native came home for Christmas and showed everyone just how much he’s grown up with the job he did defensively to help Spire get the championship win over Southeastern Prep. Gibson also led Spire with 16 Points in the win, showcasing that he’s one of the best 94 foot guys in America in the 2027 class. Gibson will continue to shine as a feature perimeter stopper with performances like this stacking up.

Teaming with Davis to form as dynamic a junior backcourt as you’ll find in the country, Gibson has been playing at a high level so far this winter. Considered among the top guard prospects in his class, the North Carolina native followed head coach Kevin Boyle from Montverde (FL) and has fit in seamlessly in his new surroundings, bringing explosive slashing ability along with tenacious defensive pressure and budding on-ball talent as a playmaker for others. Gibson has steadily been taking on more of an Alpha role as the season progresses, which will be interesting to track moving forward. He’s being pursued by many of the top programs in the country, with a reclass up to 2026 potentially being in play.

One of the more polished guards in the country, Gibson got valuable experience at Montverde Academy last season and followed coach Kevin Boyle to Spire. Gibson shows impressive patience on the ball and has excellent positional size for a primary creator. Gibson played next to Cj Rosser, our second ranked player in the country for Team United and the duo were one of the toughest pairs to stop on the EYBL this season.

One of the top guards in the country, Gibson plays with an elite pace and feel for the game. Very skilled on the ball, Gibson controls the pace of the game and displays an excellent mix of rim pressure, perimeter shooting and play-making ability. Gibson averaged over 16 PPG on the EYBL 16 U circuit for Team United, also grabbing 5 rebounds and dishing out 3.6 assists per game. Gibson is ranked 4th nationally on Rivals and showed me why he’s one of the top guards in the nation when I saw him at Peach Jam.

New to Ohio, Gibson will be playing for Kevin Boyle and Spire Academy for his junior season. One of the most talented guards in the country, Gibson was incredibly impressive in my first in-person scout. I loved that Gibson played off two feet as a driver and was under control. Finishing with 23 points on 50% shooting from the floor, Gibson had some tough finishes through traffic. An elite athlete as well, Gibson can charge direction and explode in transition so effortlessly. I also was impressed by the decision making of Gibson, making some quick reads and finishing with 4 assists to just 1 turnover. The biggest thing I’ll need to see from Gibson is a consistent 3-point shot but besides that he is an incredibly complete player at such a young age.

He continues to impress with his ability to control the pace with the ball in his hands as well as his sharp passing ability which allows him to really open things up on the entire floor. He’s a HM prospect who continues to climb up the national radar.
