About Collin
Expert Analysis

Collin, a four-star senior committed to VCU, is an electric athlete at 6’10”. He is one of the bounciest center prospects I have ever seen and threw down countless amounts of dunks off of alley-oops from his teammates. He was so good at cleaning up misses on the offensive boards, resulting in many putback dunks or layups. Ross was also a great rebounder on the defensive end, finding guard teammates to push the pace, where he was essential running the floor in transition.

Colin Ross a, a standout big from Spire Prep, had a monstrous showing at the National Championships, somehow growing his already high stock even more. The VCU commit became even more of a vocal point in the offense due to the Duquesne commit Jackson Williams being out for injury. Ross controlled the game on defense got to the free throw line and showed a level of comfort attacking off the dribble we hadn’t seen much of before.

Ross is beyond intriguing. This week at the National Prep Championships, the athletic and long 6-foot-10 center was blocking shots, finishing lobs and rebounding up the wazoo. His combination of size, length and athleticism is special, and he can get to a higher vertical point than 99% of centers. What’s incredible, though, is that he has a budding skillset that should only continue to improve—his shot is really nice and compact, and he showcased some really impressive touch finishes around the rim with both hands. The two-way vertical rim presence is already there for Ross, but some more skills would make him an unbelievable NBA prospect. He’ll be at VCU next year and will have a chance to play right away.

This was the biggest mismatch of the day and Ross could be found dunking or blocking shots basically every other minute he was on the court. Nobody on Redemption Christian could handle Ross in the paint as he grabbed numerous offensive rebounds and had some spectacular dunks. Impressive job by Spire’s post grad group to handle business as easily as they did.

It’s hard to say there’s a more improved prospect on this list, as this time last year Ross was an unknown in the state of Georgia having never played competitive AAU and still considering a career in baseball. Fast forward to now and Ross is a budding high-major big, with the combination of rim protection and efficient play-finishing that coaches at that level fawn over. With quick jumps, natural timing, and elite agility for his size, Ross is a dynamic shot-blocker who’s also capable of stepping out on the perimeter on switches. Offensively, he’s an effective lob threat who’s shown increasing signs of shooting and decisionmaking ability on the perimeter. It’s fair to say he’s still raw, but the impact and production have become increasingly loud and consistent, with physicality being the main knock on Ross at this point for coaches at the highest levels.

Despite a slower start on the offensive end isn the 1st half for Ross he found a way to get in a groove in the 2nd half with 12 of his total 14 points coming then. He continued to show that he was a threat as a rim protector swatting several shots. He made a few emphatic finishes above the rim. Ross showcased that he could stretch the defense with his ability to play on the perimeter with two three pointers. He just needs to keep stacking good days and he will have all the options he wants.

Ross made a living making plays above the rim on either end of the floor. He has great timing going up to catch lobs. He was able to hit though finishes inside around the basket. He was active on the glass getting rebounds. Ross finished with 24 points. He was also able to get to the foul line. He continues to develop with time and is starting to get more traction from colleges in his recruitment.

Our highest ranked newcomer, Ross has a ton of potential coming up to Ohio from Georgia. Put it simply, Ohio doesn’t get guys at Ross’ height that move like he does. His ability to rim run and finish lob dunks and protect the rim is very intriguing and he’s starting to continue to develop new aspects of his game as a passer and floor spacer. For Ross, the biggest jump he’ll make will be in the weight room as he needs to add weight and muscle to bang with more physical bigs in the paint. He’s got the time to do that before he arrives on a college campus.
