In anticipation for the 2027 rankings update we go position by position and talk about some players and where they are at in relation at the college level.

Point Guard

When it comes to lead guards colleges want them with size if they can. We have seen a lot of Minnesota players that are really good players not get recruited in the modern game to the level expected because of size and either a lack of a jumper, or bad shot selection with the jumper. When it comes to [player_tooltip player_id='2126117' first='Malachi' last='Hill'], he's between ideal size and too short, but he makes up for that in two key areas: 1) he's a shot maker and good shot taker and 2) he can run an offense in a way that the division one level wants him to.

(1) [player_tooltip player_id='2126117' first='Malachi' last='Hill'] of Totino-Grace/[program_tooltip program_id='2455790' first='Howard' last='Pulley']

(2) [player_tooltip player_id='2126118' first='Tyler' last='Forrest'] of Chaska/[program_tooltip program_id='2455790' first='Howard' last='Pulley']

(3) [player_tooltip player_id='2126128' first='Isaiah' last='Asuma'] of Cherry/[program_tooltip program_id='2888391' first='Minnesota' last='Comets']

(4) [player_tooltip player_id='2524650' first='Kwatamah' last='Silikpoh'] of Osseo/[program_tooltip program_id='2075431' first='D1' last='Minnesota']

(5) [player_tooltip player_id='2842020' first='Xaviahn' last='Ivey'] of Wayzata/Hoops Habits

Shooting Guard

Baboucarr is the most recruited junior in the state at the moment. With offers from five different high major schools (and four of them being constants within that recruitment - Iowa State, Minnesota, Notre Dame and Wisconsin) Ann is one of the hotter names in the Midwest at the moment. He's been to Minnesota a couple times recently and was just at Wisconsin where he was offered.

(1) [player_tooltip player_id='2126467' first='Baboucarr' last='Ann'] of Maple Grove/[program_tooltip program_id='2075431' first='D1' last='Minnesota']

(2) [player_tooltip player_id='2126458' first='Luke' last='Schroeder'] of Shakopee/Hoop Habits

(3) [player_tooltip player_id='2126102' first='Jaeden' last='Udean'] of DeLaSalle/[program_tooltip program_id='2075431' first='D1' last='Minnesota']

(4) Jaylan Hynes of Totino-Grace/[program_tooltip program_id='2075431' first='D1' last='Minnesota']

(5) [player_tooltip player_id='2533408' first='Deon' last='Wallace-Johnson'] of DeLaSalle/[program_tooltip program_id='2075431' first='D1' last='Minnesota']

Small Forward

I really hope that coaches and parents talk to players/kids about the decision that Ty just made to attend Nebraska. Nebraska wanted Ty quite badly, they recruited him with more effort than others. After enjoying his September visit and then talking to other schools it was clear that the Huskers were on him the most. Instead of "betting on himself" with the recruitment (which I'm sorry everybody, we are in a time where colleges aren't looking high school as much so you have to jump when opportunity is there and looks good) Schlagel jumped at the opportunity of the school that really wanted him. Offers dry up, would Nebraska have dried up for him? Who knows but why wait when the opportunity is there and you liked the program. We have seen others around here wait and it cost them opportunity. Ty jumped at his and now he can focus on leading CDH back to state. Congrats on your choice to attend a good school and play for good coaches Ty.

(1) [player_tooltip player_id='2126094' first='Ty' last='Schlagel'] of Cretin-Derham Hall/[program_tooltip program_id='2455790' first='Howard' last='Pulley']

(2) [player_tooltip player_id='2126115' first='Vincent' last='Cronin'] of Edina/[program_tooltip program_id='2075431' first='D1' last='Minnesota']

(3) [player_tooltip player_id='2126450' first='Gavin' last='Walter'] of Champlin Park/Hoop Habits

(4) [player_tooltip player_id='2126474' first='Kamar' last='Thomas'] of DeLaSalle/[program_tooltip program_id='2075485' first='Gain' last='Elite']

(5) [player_tooltip player_id='2412724' first='Dre' last='Collins'] of Richfield/[program_tooltip program_id='2075685' first='Minnesota' last='Select']

Power Forward

When it comes to the highest ceiling in this class there is zero doubt that Ahmed has it. He looks like he is 6'10 now, he moves well, and has a perimeter touch. That is tough to find across the nation right now and it's the type of stuff that pros look for. That is why you see 247 Sports ranking him so highly and it makes sense for a ranking that is as much pro based as it is college. That said, we are also in a time where colleges don't have time to develop guys. They want guys that can play immediately, and while Ahmed has huge potential for five years from now, he is still developing so his recruitment explosion might take more time.

(1) [player_tooltip player_id='2420169' first='Ahmed' last='Nur'] of Hopkins/[program_tooltip program_id='2075431' first='D1' last='Minnesota']

(2) [player_tooltip player_id='2404942' first='King' last='James'] of Hiawatha Collegiate/Minnesota Gold

(3) [player_tooltip player_id='2126113' first='AJ' last='Taban'] of Totino-Grace/[program_tooltip program_id='2455790' first='Howard' last='Pulley']

(4) [player_tooltip player_id='2126466' first='Kobby' last='Sambrew'] of Prior Lake/[program_tooltip program_id='2455790' first='Howard' last='Pulley']

(5) [player_tooltip player_id='2052332' first='Trey' last='Theis'] of Prior Lake/[program_tooltip program_id='2075672' first='Minnesota' last='Fury']

Center

This is super simple but it's the point, Jack is huge. He is seven feet. There are very few of those and with high level basketball being about space, if you find a guy that can take up that space, you have to look at them. What makes Jack more valuable is that he is strong and almost immovable, and he has a nice touch and good skill. All teams want some size to use at the five that they can work with, but also use as post defenders. That is what Jack will be recruited for at the D1 level.

(1) [player_tooltip player_id='2126108' first='Jack' last='Thelen'] of Maple Grove/[program_tooltip program_id='2075431' first='D1' last='Minnesota']

(2) [player_tooltip player_id='2126447' first='Briggs' last='Sheridan'] of Farmington/[program_tooltip program_id='2075431' first='D1' last='Minnesota']

(3) [player_tooltip player_id='2126126' first='Ray' last='Brau'] of Hibbing/[program_tooltip program_id='2075672' first='Minnesota' last='Fury']

(4) [player_tooltip player_id='2417301' first='Hunter' last='Vinkemeier'] of Le Sueur-Henderson/[program_tooltip program_id='2075672' first='Minnesota' last='Fury']

(5) [player_tooltip player_id='2381221' first='Carter' last='Lowis'] of Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial/[program_tooltip program_id='2075685' first='Minnesota' last='Select']
