Last week, the coaches of Class 6A submitted the only set of team rankings that will be published on OSSAARankings.com this season. We're in year three of district play, and the rankings are a table setter to help divide up the teams into the four districts. Those districts should be released later on this week. With schedules to come soon after. As is, let's use these rankings as a jumping off point to look at teams in Class 6A. Expect more team and player previews on Class 6A in the upcoming weeks.

The top 5 is as follows:

1. Owasso

2. The core of the team that made their magical run in March has either graduated or transferred to new schools. Youngsters like [player_tooltip player_id='2552719' first='Cooper' last='Witte'], [player_tooltip player_id='2553498' first='Joshua' last='Woodson'], [player_tooltip player_id='2550466' first='Torrance' last='Garfield'] will get a baptism by fire as Deer Creek will once again look to peak at the right time.

Top Ranked - Owasso

The Rams ran away with 1st place votes and will be eager to claim Gold after being last year's heavy favorite. Especially with the bitter taste of being upset in the first round by the aforementioned Antlers. Their top three is arguably the best in the state with Class of 2026 prospect [player_tooltip player_id='1552319' first='Jalen' last='Montonati'], Oral Roberts commit [player_tooltip player_id='1552362' first='Boden' last='Williams'], football-basketball standout [player_tooltip player_id='1552349' first='Julius' last='Wilson']. What will be key for them to avoid a similar upset this year will be development of players around that core. And there are very promising signs of players ready to step up. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1552386' first='MJ' last='Milton'] is finally looking healthy. He's a skilled and smart guard, ready to help their offense flow better. While Wilson's little brother, Julian is a sharpshooting junior. Who is ready to make a junior year leap.

Montonati will be the key figure for the Rams, and likely all of Oklahoma. But the play of those around him will be key to giving the Rams a balance attack as they go for their second title in three years.

Top Contender- Norman

There's a few strong contenders for this spot including Broken Arrow, Mustang, Putnam City North and Norman. All four have what is becoming the standard formula to be a contender. Quality returning players and key additions via transfers.

Mustang and Putnam City North have some of the more exciting Class of 2028 prospects in the 405. Returning sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='2712639' first='Garrett' last='Smith'] is an athletic, above the rim player. Sophomore newcomer [player_tooltip player_id='2464132' first='Scyon' last='Wilborn'] is a traditional point guard, who will set the table for his talented teammates. Senior newcomer sharpshooters [player_tooltip player_id='1552351' first='Drew' last='Reynolds'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2638582' first='Gavin' last='Milligan'] will surely hit tough shots. While junior [player_tooltip player_id='2326939' first='Gabe' last='Osborne'] is one of the top athletes in Oklahoma, along with exciting fellow junior [player_tooltip player_id='2140772' first='Mar'Quell' last='Robinson']. There's a ton of talent and depth that will be stepping on the floor for the new look Broncos,

While Broken Arrow lost a lot of production from last year's semifinal team, they still have a tall and athletic squad. With returnees junior [player_tooltip player_id='2327117' first='Gene' last='Mason'] and Senior [player_tooltip player_id='2224276' first='Corban' last='Dow'] expected to shine in bigger roles. And they added skilled senior wing-forward [player_tooltip player_id='1613564' first='Aidan' last='Clark']. Newer faces will be expected to step up around that main trio but Broken Arrow is a school that doesn't rebuild, they reload.

Norman leans more towards their talented senior class. Which headlined by a fantastic backcourt trio of versatile guards, [player_tooltip player_id='1552322' first='Beau' last='Billingsley'], [player_tooltip player_id='2292195' first='Montrel' last='Combs-Pierce'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2394516' first='Gideon' last='Holt']. Billingsley has matured into a fantastic, complete all around guard. Combs-Pierce is a dogged defender, and Holt will hit big perimeter shots as an all around guard. Providing the size for the contending Tigers is newcomer [player_tooltip player_id='1503677' first='Caison' last='Robinson']. Who has a huge wingspan at 6'6 and can step out to hit threes. Norman has been one of the most consistent teams with winning habits over recent years, and expect that to continue this winter.

Championship Sleeper - Edmond Santa Fe

The Wolves were young last year and return much of that talent and have added a new coach, Terry Evans. And he knows a thing or two about winning Gold Balls in Oklahoma. They have a very exciting senior trio, that will bring the urgency come playoff time. There's lead guard Money Robinson. He's been a contributor since his freshman year, and will bring experience as a leader. While also creating for teammates and finding spots to score with his electric game. Wing Joseph "JoJo" Baba showed flashes of explosive play as a junior. Then had a huge spring and summer. While newcomer [player_tooltip player_id='1552366' first='CJ' last='Dawkins'] comes over from GRIND Prep. He's a bigger guard and will be among the better two way guards in Oklahoma. Expect Santa Fe to be very improved, especially with the potential for sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='2381835' first='TJ' last='Newton'] to make a leap as an all around scorer.

Undervalued Team - Piedmont

Guard play is key to making noise as an underdog, and the Wildcats specialize in that. They return a lot of experience in the backcourt, led by outstanding senior [player_tooltip player_id='1552326' first='Hudson' last='Hite']. He's been contributing since his freshman year. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1552325' first='Carter' last='Hainrihar'] is a hard nosed football-basketball standout. His ability to get downhill is important for the flow of their offense. Senior newcomers [player_tooltip player_id='1552332' first='Avery' last='Lehman'] and Hudson Hornberg will provide shooting and toughness, respectively. Keep an eye on freshman Jeremiah Millhouse, an unselfish guard who is ready to make an impact.

With their waves of guards, the Wildcats are poised to improve on their 12-12 record. Especially with the flashes they had, including a win over Putnam City North. And they had Putnam City on the ropes in Regionals. Taking a step forward and a trip to Area (and maybe even more )is very much in the cards for Piedmont this season.
