Welcome to August, the month basketball comes closest to stopping. Still, there's a handful of college elite camps and upcoming ADM news. Which the new ADM will dictate the classifications for this high school season. Pretty crazy how we're less than two months from official practice starting and Oklahoma's two largest classifications don't even have their districts and schedules set. Anyway, there will be instant reaction articles, too early district previews and more when to help start previewing the upcoming high school season.

ADM and Districts are coming

As touched on above, the biggest Oklahoma high school basketball of August news will come with the release of the ADM . It really should be any-day now. Even without ADM, there are some changes that can be predicted. After two straight years of reaching the Class 3A State Tournament, Cascia Hall will be entering the foray of Class 4A. That's due to the current rule the OSSAA has regarding private schools and competition success. On the flip side, with fellow 918 private school Victory Christian only reaching state once in the last three years. If there enrollment numbers place them as a Class 3A size school, they will remain there, as they will no longer have the competition success bump.

While it isn't official, there does seem to be an expectation/possibility that Newcastle will have an increase in enrollment numbers that would bump them to 5A. If they do, that would be quite a shake up to the Class 5A picture. As the roster changes for the Racers would have them be a top contender in 5A, or if they remain in the Class 4A. The schools that floated around the 5A/4A mark last year were Newcastle, Elgin, Blanchard and Classen SAS. With SAS ending up in 5A. The Comets are another squad with a new look, mixed with good returning players. They'll fit the category of a darkhorse team, no matter if they stay in 5A or move down to 4A.

As noted in the last write up on Chatman, July would be a big month for him with a couple weeks in Augusta. One positive development out of his games there were the signs of improving defense. Defense is often effort and understanding where to be at the right times. Chatman has a strong frame he uses to wall off drives and be in the right spots on help defense. It's a good starting point as he looks to build off a strong spring and summer. A concerning sign was that he wasn't at his best from three. He went 4-25 from three in E16 play. The speed of the game and jump from regional action to national competition usually does have an adjustment period. Hopefully the reps help the game slow down for a potentially big junior season.

Robinson is likely the top prospect in the Class of 2029. He's more than just his height. Sure he can post up and score at the rim. Along with already blocking shots and finishing with slams. But he has true perimeter potential. From his improving athleticism to true shooting and ball handling abilitiy. He's one of the highest ceiling prospects in Oklahoma, regardless of class. It's big expectations for the youngster, but he's young and full of potential. Expect him to turn that potential into production at Booker T Washington, sooner rather than later.

Shooting is one of the early tickets to playing time for freshman. Especially at the Class 6A level. Noles has already gotten his feet wet with the Tigers' varsity team, impressing during June camps. Even if he's more of a floor spacer this winter, Noles has the look of an all around point guard when playing with LeGYnds 14U. At Jr EYBL Peach Jam, he was dangerous off the dribble. Finishing at the rim and hitting in the mid-range. Look for Noles to have moments on an upperclassman laden Norman squad.

A lefty sharpshooter, Hall is part of an exciting incoming freshman group for the Indians. He's already starting to have next level size, with an advanced skillset. His older sister is a freshman at UT Rio Grande Valley, so the basketball pedigree runs in the family. Hall has the potential to become one of the most complete scorers in the Class of 2029. Especially with the opportunity to make an early impact at Catoosa.

Speedy guard, with quickness and good strength. A handful to keep out of the paint, with the ball handling skills to go along with his gifted athleticism. Combined with a good motor and aggressive mindset, the athletic guard is capable of becoming a two-way terror at the high school level.

Pierce is still very much in the developmental stage of his basketball career. There's flashes of grabbing boards and good touch around the rim. Maybe even hitting a three. His upcoming high school impact might be limited compared to other top prospects, but the upside is the highest in the class. First because seemingly with every viewing, he's still growing. Then second, his older brother Trent started 19 games at Missouri this past year. And at the rate Nate is growing, he might just end up being taller than 6 foot 10.
