Denson became the leading scorer in Midwest City history this season. The 6’3″ guard also provided an uptick in his rebounding and play-making this year. With his scoring average up over 24 points per game, he without a doubt earned the prestige that comes with this exclusive list. Denson did all of this against one of the tougher schedules in the state this past season. DeShawn makes tough shots with regularity and piled up 14 games in which he scored 20 or more points this season.

Like the rest of the Bombers, it was a slow start for Denson as they struggled to find an offensive rhythm for the first three quarters. But the all time leading scorer in Midwest City saved his best for last. He drained a huge momentum shifting three mid-way through the fourth. Then with the game tied and 30 seconds remaining, he hit a shot he’s been making since his freshman year. Pumped fake to avoid a close out, took one dribble and nothing but net. Would add 18 points to his legendary scoring total and most importantly another State Tournament win.

This weekend Denson became the all time leading scorer for one of the most prestigious programs in Oklahoma. And while the individual accolade is nice, he also accomplished a bigger team achievement. Another State Tournament appearance. He’s been a mainstay for three straight State Tournament teams now. Which is remarkable as he was a big part of their worst to first turnaround from his freshman season to a State Championship as a sophomore. The Class 5A state tournament is loaded this year, but with a scorer like Denson the Bombers will always have a shot to add to their legendary trophy case.

A four year starer, Denson has cleared 1500 career points and is pushing for 2,000. A deep playoff run would likely help him hit the lofty number. It also would be key in Midwest City making a third straight Class 5A State Tournament. Denson was part of their worst to finish transformation that occurred during his freshman and sophomore years. Where the Bombers won the Class 5A State Title in 2024, which came on the heels of a 6-18 season in 2023. Denson started in 2023 as a young guard, who bombed threes. Steadily over the last few years he’s developed an all around game. Now even putting up big rebounding numbers this year. Scoring is his DNA but it will take every bit of defense, rebounding and playmaking for Denson to help MWC to another State Tournament appearance.

Denson entered high school with a rep as an elite shooter. Which he has proved over and over at Midwest City. Including helping them to a Class 5A State Title as a sophomore. He spent nearly two weeks in Augusta this month, and it was a testament to how his game has grown. Because it was an oddly cool shooting performance from three, although he did force OT in one game with a corner three. But it was still a strong sign that he didn’t let his shooting performance impact the rest of his game.
He’s now stronger off the bounce and was efficient at scoring at the rim and midrange. While also staying connected and competing on the defensive end. Denson has been one of the more productive players in Oklahoma’s Class of 2026 and deserves collegiate opportunities.

Denson has seen it all in three years at Midwest City. His freshman year, the Bombers struggled mightly. He was a baby faced long range sniper on that squad. Learning from those experiences, he was a key part of their 2024 5A State Title winning team. Then last year, he helped guided an injury plagued squad back to the State Tournament. They ultimately fell short in repeating, but one thing became clear. Denson is a bucket. Long range shooting is the foundation of his game. But he’s very capable off the bounce now. With a good pull up, and a sneaky finishing game at the basket.

Deshawn Denson had a quick release off the catch, even against closeouts or with a hand in his face, he remained poised, barely needing a glimpse of daylight to let it fly. The moment the ball touched his hands, it was already in motion.

From a freshman sniper to all around scoring machine as a junior. Denson has cleared 1,000 career points and did so with 25+ point performances in recent wins against top district foes Lawton and Del City. The 38 point performance against stingy rivals Del City including five triples. With college ready range on catch and shoot makes. Along with improving wiggle and footwork to shake defenders loose with jab steps and “hesi” moves before pulling up. Has added mid-range mastery to his elite shooting from beyond on the arc. Can finish with either hand around the rim. Shooting is always in need at the collegiate level and Denson looks capable of providing just that.

Junior year can be the separation season for prospects, and Denson’s Saturday afternoon indicates that he’s ready to separate. He’s stepping into the primary scoring role for the Bombers and thrived. He opened the game with deep threes, then started working his way to the basket. On drives he had his fair share of tough finishes through contact, aided by his long arms to finish. There’s always been that crafty aspect to his finishing, but it’s looking to be more efficient. Especially as he’s grown from a freshman sharpshooter who didn’t like to put the ball on the deck, to a full offensive attacker who went right at a physical squad out of Texas.
