The DC Basketball Coaches Association and the DCSAA are set to host their annual Live Evaluation Period "DC Live" June 20-22! The 3-day event will see 28 different teams from DC, VA, WV, MD, and FL. This is a chance to see some of the top public and private schools in the area all under one gym at Sidwell. Here's a few of the things I'm most excited to get a fresh look at;

Cardozo and Jackson Reed Test Their New-Look Backcourt

Both the Cardozo Clerks and the Jackson Reed Tentley Tigers made some big moves in the offseason. '28 [player_tooltip player_id='2705135' first='Jordan' last='Fox'] and '26 [player_tooltip player_id='2357007' first='Kevin' last='Jackson Jr'] have made the transfer to Cardozo. Jackson Reed picked up '27 [player_tooltip player_id='2327613' first='Averi' last='Knight'] to run alongside [player_tooltip player_id='2620491' first='Diego' last='Joy']. These two teams matched up in the DCSAA championship for the last two seasons, and they are making the moves to make sure they stay on top for their respective 2025-26 runs.

Cardozo is reloaded with rising senior Kev Jackson running the show. He is a fiery PG that loves to play both sides of the ball and stays in attack mode. He is the perfect fit for the pressure the Clerks like to put on their opponents each night. [player_tooltip player_id='2705135' first='Jordan' last='Fox'] joins following a monster 20+ PPG scoring season for Avalon as a freshman. He will take the role of being a main scoring option for a team that will still look to him to put the ball in the basket at the most crucial moments. This pairing out in DC will be interesting to see firsthand at DC Live against the local comp.

The Tentley Tigers have seamlessly incorporated high-level point guard [player_tooltip player_id='2327613' first='Averi' last='Knight'] into the fold. He has had a fair share of games with his new squad to ramp things up for the competition at DC Live. Knight has looked right at home so far with JR, running through the offense and finding shots for himself. It has been a nice addition so far and I fully expect Averi to be another strong playmaker for the team down the line.

Brief WCAC Preview

DC Live will give us a chance to see a few of the Washington Catholic conference teams in action. A lot has changed following the end of the 2024-25 season. Here's some things to look out for this weekend from each of the WCAC members playing;

St. John's Cadets

SJC has a lost a couple of their high-major prospects to college, and they will be without the big shooter [player_tooltip player_id='1588109' first='Finley' last='Billy'] following his transfer to Bullis. Nonetheless, SJC is loaded with talent ranging from all classes. Their backcourt is still in tact with [player_tooltip player_id='1782663' first='Devin' last='Toatley'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1969210' first='Geremy' last='Clark'] leading the charge. C/o 2027 big men [player_tooltip player_id='2353549' first='Jordan' last='Taylor'] and James DiBitteto have made their transfer to the Cadets. They will be a major factor down low with [player_tooltip player_id='1782593' first='Zyion' last='Chase'] all year long.

Sidwell Friends

Sidwell is another WCAC team losing their top-ranked prospects, but they have a ton to showcase this upcoming weekend. Their undersclassmen performed better and better over the season last year, and now it's time for those like '27 F [player_tooltip player_id='2353562' first='Ian' last='Condon'] and '28 PG [player_tooltip player_id='2453417' first='Jadah' last='Washington'] to lead the way for the Quakers. Sidwell finds a way to play to their expectations almost each time out with our without their stars.

Gonzaga College Purple Eagles

Gonzaga, losing a handful of ranked 2025 recruits, will put the ball in the hands of their future. Players like [player_tooltip player_id='2353555' first='Malachi' last='Terrell'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1782769' first='Saxton' last='Simley'] have long waited for their chance to take on bigger roles, and now looks to be their moment. The Purple Eagles will have a lot of eyes on them from DC Live and on.

Archbishop Carroll

Carroll may have their best shot to contend for a title this upcoming season. Led by star senior PG [player_tooltip player_id='1782683' first='Anthony' last='Brown Jr'] , Carroll has gotten key experiences under their belt that should have them ready to take a big step. The supporting cast featuring [player_tooltip player_id='2194564' first='Donovan' last='Ford'], [player_tooltip player_id='2353541' first='Bam' last='Bolding'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1963388' first='Bryton' last='Barrett'] will be an entertaining and hungry bunch to keep close eye on over the weekend.
