With plenty of experience on this stage as a key four-year contributor, Chase came out aggressive and maintained his approach throughout a comfortable St. John’s win. Finishing with a double-double of 13 points and 12 boards, he thrived on the strength of his constant activity and twitchy athleticism near the basket. He fought off his tendency to float toward the perimeter and helped establish the Cadets as the tougher team in the frontcourt. His defensive versatility and two-way activity may be going a bit undervalued currently as Chase primarily hears from D2 and JUCO programs.

Zyion is at his best getting rebounds and running rim to rim and making plays with energy and intensity. Zyion knows when to take it in the paint or shoot it over the defenders. Also showed the ability to play bigger than his measurements. Hybrid forward that is a high motor guy who plays hard and BIG on both ends of the floor. Finish the game against a feisty Bishop Ireton team with 13 points on 5-15 from the field, 0-1 from the 3pt line, 12 (8 offensive) rebounds, 2 steals, 2 assists and 1 block.

A mainstay in the St. John’s lineup since his freshman year, Chase is now the lone unsigned senior for the Cadets and looked to be playing with a healthy chip on his shoulder during a well-rounded performance in a Saturday afternoon win. Chase was aggressive from the opening jump, using a blend of quickness, length, and underrated ball skills to attack the rim out of a wide variety of situations. While he struggled at times with his efficiency as a finisher, Chase was relentless with his effort and also flashed some expanded skill away from the basket without ever feeling like he was settling on the perimeter. He stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, 7 boards, and 4 assists. Being pursued mostly at the D2 and JUCO levels, Chase is certainly worth exploring late in the cycle for D1 programs valuing his versatility in the frontcourt.

-Liked the defensive effort from the senior F, as Chase spent most of his evening battling against taller prospects and protecting the rim without fouling. He scored off a rip and sweep offensive rebound from corner by scoring a double clutch layup off the window just before the shot clock expired, defended the inbounder then crossed the paint to force a miss on the pass and grab the rebound, and had a key runout and1 lay in transition to make it an 11-point game midway through the 4Q. His ability to show on the perimeter until his guards fight over ball screens and recover to his man unlocks a lot for the Cadets on the defensive end of the floor.

has always seemed to find a way to be impactful player on both ends of the floor. He’s strong, and explosive defender and finisher at the rim. Chase is a tad bit undersized, but he plays much bigger than his measurements as he is a versatile piece whose size, creation ability, and scoring prowess from within 12 feet and in make him a matchup problem for bigger opponents. His size and athleticism make him a useful defender who can force turnovers and make plays in transition. Chase should only continue to trend upward with his energy he brings to the floor. Show in the two games scoring 22 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks.

Tough undersize 6-6 player that played much bigger than his size. It is easy to see why Chase is one of the tough players in the WCAC league, and he continues to make strides in his game and add more to his arsenal. When you watch him operate, Chase does an excellent job in being able to make plays in an array of ways, whether it is scoring and getting downhill, creating and dishing to teammates, or making plays on the defensive end. Love his overall feel and impact on the court.

-Love the role that Chase is playing in for the Cadets as a Draymond type that can defend multiple positions, rebound, and pass at a pretty high level. The unsigned senior had a nice lob finish in transition, jumped a passing lane for a steal and kicked ahead to a teammate for a layup, hit a runner off glass, executed a perfect euro step to score past the defender in transition, and had a perfect backdoor cut behind the defense for the lay off the window out of a set for SJC. Chase sees the floor well and has enough handle to take his matchup off the bounce to create for his teammates. If he can continue finishing at a high level around the basket, running the floor in transition, and being disruptive defensively–I expect college coaches to see that production translating to their level and getting involved in his recruitment. One of the most impactful players in the area whose contributions don’t always show up in the stat sheet.

-Arguably one of the most versatile defenders on the east coast. The ground that Chase is able to cover defensively for the Cadets as a W/F that can guard on the perimeter, protect the rim, hit the glass, and communicate ball screens defensively is invaluable to his team. The ball-handling continues to improve as he is now able to change directions more easily and get downhill without accumulating charges. Want to see him be more aggressive at turning the corner and getting downhill to create his own offense in the paint. But he remains one of my favorite prospects to watch in the area and one of the most important pieces to his team’s success because of the impact that he makes beyond the box score.
