Expert Analysis
Eric Wallace | Prep Hoops Scout
A shifty, left-handed lead guard, he plays the position with craft and composure. He has a strong feel for the game, understanding pace, spacing, and how to read defensive coverages. He does an excellent job using screens — setting up his defender, turning the corner with purpose, and making the right decision once he gets into the paint.
He is also a solid open shot maker who can stretch the defense when defenders go under or help off. With his change of pace, ball control, and overall IQ, he consistently puts himself and his teammates in advantageous positions.

Joy is one of the best floor generals I saw this AAU season and he does an elite job of running a team and managing the game. He picks all the right times when to attack the weaknesses in the defense. He knows where to find his teammates for success in all the right spots. Joy also shows that he has a scoring gene and finds the bucket in a handful of ways. You cannot keep him out of the paint. Joy should be a priority at the division two level.

Diego is a player that is reliable each game with his play style and efficiency. Pass-first point guard that will dominate from time to time with his scoring skillset. Likes to drive hard left or right and can shoot floaters over help or take the contact and finish at the rim. Knock-down shooter from range that drills catch-and-shoot threes at a high rate. Diego’s IQ and PG ability help him create so many opportunities for the offense, even if he doesn’t end up assisting the basket. Nothing that Diego can’t do on the court, and he can blend his play into the offense and quietly drop 15 on you with 6 assists. Always active in the passing lanes and rotates well as a defender. Diego may be the most crucial piece on the Jackson Reed roster this upcoming season thanks to his all-around skill.

-Joy is doing a great job of channeling his emotions into standout performances as a dynamic combo guard that can score, rebound, and distribute. Joy stands into a bigger role this season as the lead guard for a Jackson Reed team that will need him to be incredibly dynamic in the halfcourt to be successful. His balance and scoring craft around the basket is leading to more trips to the FT line for more efficient scoring performances as a guard that isn’t afraid to mix it up in the paint. Love that he is beginning to use those paint touches to create easy dumpoff opportunities to his bigs around the basket for high-percentage looks. Would be shocked if he wasn’t named an All-League guard this season.

-Joy looked poise to take on a primary role as the focal point of the Tigers’ offense as he steps into his senior season. Joy is a crafty lefty point guard that excels at getting to the rim and scoring off of pull-ups from the elbow. But the biggest area for growth is that he is beginning to see the floor a bit better and is delivering some beautiful passes from the paint to his shooters to generate open looks for his offense. The next area is to drive more often to space and avoid trying to split through narrow gaps, to make the simple play instead of forcing the action. However, his competitive fire and varied skillset will be really crucial to the Tigers’ success this season as a team.

Really was impressed with the command of the game Joy had. He frequently found others for scoring chances. He was able to get paint touches. Joy showed a flash from behind the arc. He is one step ahead of the opposition. Joy showed the ability to score with his in-between game. He should be a priority recruit for division two programs in need of a floor general.

Joy impacted the game in all facets with his play. He was relentless on the attack getting paint touches with ease. He scored around the bucket regularly. He was able to gets others involved. He also found ways to keep posessions alive with his hustle. Joy could improve from behind the arc he showed some flashes from there. I see Joy as a division two prospect and hope to see those schools get involved with him in the coming months.

-The feel and decision-making development is coming along with Joy as a PG with decent size that can score and distribute in the halfcourt. Joy overcame a rough shooting night from the floor to still impact the game on the glass and by making plays for others, bringing JR back to lose by 6 after trailing by 15+ for most of the game. Two assists off of offensive rebounds led to And-1 buckets for his team down the stretch, and it’s good to see Joy making those split-second reads on the fly for his team.

Diego got busy right from the jump in his outing vs Bullis. Hit a corner 3 right following the previous possession where he beat the defense for an easy layup. Made some very good passes throughout the game and had a great impact when out on the break playmaking. Turned in the most consistent scoring 1st half for the Tentley Tigers. Diego still remained a scoring threat in the second half, but did a good job of feeding the hot hand and making shots when needed. Positive presence on the floor each minute he’s out there for Jackson Reed.
