-Knight played a big role in an undefeated weekend for his group, serving as both an effective scorer and play-maker for his team in the half court. Knight found opportunities to create for himself off the bounce as a jump shooter at the elbows or in the paint with 1-legged floaters. He’s consistently finding more and more opportunities to execute a Steve Nash drive along the baseline to force helpers to take their eyes off of his teammates and is using his scoring gravity to hit his man on the slip for easy buckets at the rim. He really turned up in the 2H with multiple AND1 layups through contact in transition, floaters off the window going to his right, and even took it C2C on several players to convert a defensive rebound into points at the opposite end for his team. If he can continue to improve the efficiency of his dribbles while processing the different moving parts in each action, I can see him continuing to take real strides in his development as a dual threat PG.

is a point guard/ combo guard playing AAU for DC Assault this year. He’s a well-rounded, high-IQ player who makes the right play more times than not. He forces turnovers, rebounds well for the position, and shoots the ball well. He plays well off other ball handlers and is capable of running the show on his own, making him versatile in ways he can be used offensively. On defense, his center of gravity, lateral quickness, and knack for pressuring ballhandlers getting into their legs make him capable of guarding guys larger than his height.

Though he has been the most consistent prospects in the league, you can clearly watch Knight has that “it” factor in his game with fluidity, understanding, and overall feel for the game; it looks smooth early on. Knight combines strong IQ, athleticism, and positional size to impact the game in multiple ways, rebounding, forcing turnovers, and consistently making the right play. With his productivity and feel for the game at such, Knight carries significant long-term upside Contributed 12 points in an 82-44 victory over Ron Brown.

is already very comfortable producing at the varsity level. Knight is a smart, steady guard who can dictate the offense or apply scoring pressure in various ways. He’s a lethal shooting threat with deep range and nice off-ball instincts. Knight also does a nice job of attacking closeouts, setting up others, and scoring inside the arc on floaters and pull-ups. He provides a scrappy, high-energy defensive presence and secures rebounds well for his size/position. Although he’s already a meaningful varsity contributor, expect Knight to continue trending upward for the Tigers 11-1 conference and 15-8 Overall Record…Averaging 15 points, 6 assist and 2 steals a game.

Knight is a stat sheet stuffing point guard who contributes to all facets of the game. He applies great ball pressure and turns defense to offense on a frequent basis. He can score from behind the arc but needs to work on his efficiency. Knight does a nice job finding ways to touch the paint and has nice touch around the bucket. I also like the way he can create offensive chances for teammates. He should see recruitment at the low major level.

Knight’s performance on Saturday despite taking a tough loss to Bullis brought me comfort to why we have him in the top 25 of our MD/DC 2027 rankings. What he lacks in size he brings in absolute toughness and grit playing with his hair on fire defensively and tapping into his top-notch speed getting to the rim on drives. Another small DMV guard who doesn’t allow misses to impact his effort, Knight was the catalyst to Jackson-Reed nearly pulling out the win over Bullis as he led with a game-high 20 points, pulled down five boards, dished out three assists and collected three steals.

Averi has looked very suitable in his new threads at Jackson Reed. Made some smooth passes and scored with ease at times over the summer during team play, showing he will be a force with the Tentley Tigers. Was more relied upon to score with Maret, but now Averi has fallen into his new role as an initiator within JR’s offense, scoring when the defense slips up and capitalizing on spacing mistakes to find open teammates. I thought he really showcased his playmaking ability well during team play, getting to spots on the floor and making timely reads to seek out open opportunities.

-Knight looked really good as the head of the snake for a Jackson Reed team that lost its starting point guard and two other starters to graduation. He pushed the pace in transition, hit shots from the perimeter off of ball screens, thrived off the ball as a C+S guy, was really pesky defensively, and showed off his finishing bag in the paint. Came away impressed by his improved shooting mechanics (especially off the bounce) as the dribble pick-up into his shooting pocket is much quicker and more efficient. Also came away impressed with his decision making with the ball in his hands and the wiggle he has as a guard that can maneuver in some tight spaces. He’s also seemingly put on muscle and is more comfortable playing through contact as shown on a beautiful bump in lay off the window to start the game and a spin move on the baseline before finger-rolling it with the left hand in the center of the paint. In an area and class that has a ton of point guard talent, Knight should really shine as the primary scorer and ballhandler for a JR team that has been the team to beat in the DCIAA for the past few years.
