-One of the best overall unsigned prospects in the area, Shackleford really gets it done at the defensive end of the floor. Love the ball pressure that he provides as a POA defender that fights over ball screens and does a great job denying when put on the opposition’s best scorer. The deflections and steals that he collects really fuel his offense on night when the jumper isn’t falling, allowing his to sustain consistent 2-way production despite being the focal point of his team. His ability to play alongside other great players bodes well to his long-term future.

Shackleford is a smooth operating floor general who thrives at controlling the pace of the game. He is very meticulous on the attack and picks apart the defense when he is navigating to the bucket. I like how he can score the bucket in a variety of ways and always seems to be one step ahead.Shackleford showed that he can be a threat from deep and can’t be left open from outside. He sought out contact well and made a living at the foul line. Shackleford would be a great late addition to a low major school or should be a a prospect who should garner attention from the national prep level in need of an impact guard.

Liked the way Shackleford sets the tone as a leader. Smart, tough, well-rounded guard with creation skill and scoring polish. Competes hard on the glass and does well to make his presence felt defensively. Malik was dialed in from start to finish in the Pallotti, knocking down shots in both halves and gaining confidence as the game went on. He moves well without the ball and stretches the defense with deep shooting range. Malik is a legit Division 1 college level prospect.

Shackleford has been lost in proverbial sauce at times, with Friendship Tech outside the conversation among D.C.’s premier programs and a host of high-major talent alongside him with Team Durant over the years. Nonetheless, when placed under the microscope he’s always looked the part of a potential D1 prospect with dynamic scoring ability and a growing presence across the floor game. A coach’s son, Shackleford shows mature pace and impressive polish to his handle while navigating downhill and taking on contact at the rim. He’s not quite a true point, but is able to facilitate when he draws extra defenders and shows the ability to use his length and strength to bother opposing guards on D. Shackleford could be an intriguing late addition at the scholarship-level or could take potentially take off with a year in the prep school ranks given that he’s currently a younger senior.

Malik had a really special first half for Tech Prep in their championship game at the Gov Challenge. Showed there was nothing he couldn’t do offensively, whether it be scoring the ball in different ways or setting up his teammates off the dribble. Completely dominated on the floor with the combination of a smooth jumper mixed between flurries of isolation baskets scoring in one to two moves. Gave the opponent massive problems with his versatility and ability to impact everything happening on the floor.

Named to the All-Tournament Team. The catalyst played with deliberate pace out of ball screens, got to his sweet spots on the floor, and utilized his size for a lead guard to finish in the paint. Malik routinely makes the right play. Scores within the flow. Smooth perimeter release. Good decision maker. Impacts the game on both ends of the floor. Strong frame. Versatile defender. Rebounds. The 7th and 8th place featured one of the better guard match-up you will see in Malik and Marquis Clark. Shackleford finished the game with 24 points on 11-17 2FG, and 2-4 from the 3pt line. His play against Marquis showed Malik is one of the Top unsigned point guards in the Middle Atlantic Region.

-Liked the grit and defensive effort from Shackleford as he works his way back from injury. Most prospects that have a rough game offensively will let that affect their defensive effort, but he almost finish with a double-double when you combine points and stocks. Shackleford was really active defensively blocking shots on and off the ball while jumping passing lanes to push the pace in transition. Offensively the jumper was just a tad off but he made up for it with drives to the rim before finishing with either hand around the rim. Shackleford is also beginning to see some of the crosscourt skip reads and execute those passes through tight windows– the jump shots were just not falling tonight. With so many new pieces to work in, this Tech Prep team should look totally different in the spring.

Shackleford has to shoulder much of the on-ball initiating for this Friendship Tech group, which has a very young roster. He’s more effective as a secondary playmaker, but even in this case the 6-foot-3 strong-framed guard got downhill going to his right with regularity and embraced contact on the way to the bucket. Time after time again, Shackleford seemed to be finding an angle to get his floater off or draw enough contact to force the ref’s whistle. The overall ball security and decision-making as a passer still needs some work as indicated by his nine total turnovers, but when you factor in his usage percentage for this team going against a swarming Highland defense, it tends to be at least a little more understanding. Shackleford’s game-high 24 points weren’t enough to withstand Highland’s attack, but his team showed fight under his leadership to make a late game push.

True point guard who thrives in organized chaos. A coach on the floor with excellent court vision, vocal leadership, and relentless effort. Controls pace, makes others better, and competes on both ends. Physical defender who anticipates and dictates tempo. High-IQ and team-first player. Under-radar prospects played with Team Durant this summer but had an injured ankle didn’t play this summer. Look for Malik to have a strong senior season to gain Division looks this season.

Elite size for a point guard at 6-foot-4. Controls the game from his unique vantage point with impressive creativity, flair, poise and instincts operating off a live dribble. Solid ball handler who plays at different speeds and can make every pass with either hand, especially operating out of pick-and-roll. Ability to knock down perimeter shots out to 21 feet and finish at the rim. Defensively use his size to play the passing lane and make hard for opposing PGs with his length and craftiness.
