Gray led Bethel Academy to a win over Landon with 22 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists on Friday. The rising senior is a tough, strong left handed lead guard who can create his own offense off the dribble. He is a both a scorer and distributor and a reliable shot maker, Gray has above average quickness, is a good decision maker and is one of the state’s top point guard prospects in the 2027 class.

I’d be remiss to leave Gray off this list considering the fashion in which he engineers this Bethel team. We’ve written a ton on him this spring/summer, but all of it has been deserved and he put forth another display this morning as he scored 23PTS, dished out 9ASTS and hauled in 4REBS . Even though Bethel came up short against Potomac, Gray’s hands were all over this game and while he’s proven to be one of the better scoring point guards the last few months, he can also regularly flirt with double-doubles in the rebounds or assists categories.

There aren’t too many guards in the DMV wired to win the way that Gray is. As tough as they come, the 6’0″ lead guard is battle tested, but will embrace the senior leadership role on a Bethel Academy team that boasts plenty of youth and new faces via the transfer portal. If there were any questions as to how he’d produce with his new surrounding teammates, he led DMV Live S1 scoring over 29PPG and picked up where he left off yesterday by pouring in 27 with a bevy of triples. He’s a strong-framed driver that makes up for his lack of height with his ability to bully opposing guards to get to his spots. He maintains floor vision on paint touches and can make pretty much any pass he needs to off the live dribble. Defensively, he pressures the ball with lateral quickness, is a menace in the passing lanes and a plus rebounder for his position.

-One of my favorite prospects to watch in HS basketball because of the floor-raising, winning brand that he plays with at both ends of the floor. Gray is a relentless downhill driver that shows good vision as a creator capable of diming tight passes through small windows in the defense, makes up for offensive mistakes by sprinting back to serve as a disruptive defender adept at creating turnovers, and flashes a competitive fire that raises the level of play from all of his teammates. The shot-making off of stepbacks and sidesteps or behind screens was an affirming sign of development as a pretty complete point guard prospect that should make an impact at the next level early on in his career.

Gray had a strong arugment as the MVP of this weekend if awards were officially given out. The 6-foot lead guard continues to steer a reinvigorated Bethel Academy group to wins and at DMV Live, he showed off his scoring prowess and ability to live in the paint. In four games, the southpaw averaged an alarming 29PPG to go with 7RPG and 3.8APG. As indicated, his hands were all over their matchups as Bethel finished their showing 2-2 overall. His tenacity and activity defensively were evident and it’s clear that those around him match his motor, which is a reason why the group has steamrolled opponents in summer league play.

Gray stayed on with the Blazers through the coaching change and gives his team a foundational piece to build around as an absolute game-breaker of a point guard that does everything required to win basketball games. Gray applies a ton of pressure on-ball at the point of attack to blow up ball screens and disrupt offensive flow, is incredibly dynamic as a passer and finisher in transition, and plays with the necessary urgency to make timely but effective plays in clutch moments. His energy and fight are contagious culture-setters as Coach Shamsudeen looks to continue building a program at Bethel. As college coaches continue to espouse their search for HS prospects that can step into a role to contribute to winning right away, I expect his translatable skills to stand out in a game that is missing true table-setter point guards.

Gray put together a very strong spring with Team Durant on the EYBL circuit, averaging 11.5 points and 2.6 assists per game while consistently producing against elite competition. A tough, physical left handed lead guard, he plays with confidence and embraces big moments. Gray is capable of creating his own offense, using his strength, handle, and above-average quickness to get downhill and generate scoring opportunities. He is a reliable shot maker who can score from the perimeter or attack the paint, making him a legitimate offensive weapon. Beyond his scoring ability, Gray is dependable with the basketball, makes sound decisions, and rarely gets rattled by defensive pressure.

-Just an absolute winner. Gray engineered a comeback against a scrappy, well-coached Iverson team by playing both ends of the floor at a high level. Gray scored twice off of post-ups on a smaller guard in front of the rim, closed distance quickly to swat a layup attempt at the rim in transition, shot the gap to avoid being screened to force deflections or steals that gave his team life in the 2H, generated paint touches to force defenses to collapse, and hit a huge double crossover deep 3 for game. Our scouts always come impressed with how hard and how aggressive he plays on a nightly basis surrounded by 4 and 5-star talent as the engine for Durant’s 17u group.

One of the most productive guards I saw all day and it comes to no surprise as Gray has prided himself throughout his high school career as a tough-nosed, stat-stuffing backcourt presence who is adaptable in different systems. No matter the style, he’s going to bring a relentless on-ball pressure defensively that refuses to go away. On several occasions, he met his man at the halfcourt line and never too a retreat step. Instead, he holds his ground with a low center of gravity and active hands that have cat-like quickness, which resulted in multiple steals or deflections and him finishing the job at the other end. He ran the show for Durant 17s as Jamaal McKnight Jr. was out and things functioned fluidly. The value with Gray is that he’ll be able to shift off the ball as well while maintaining his workmanlike approach and dial in to his long-range shooting off the catch with underrated precision. It’s very rare that Gray has an unproductive outing whenever he takes the floor and Saturday was another day of work for the southpaw guard.

Gray is a tough, scoring lefty lead guard who can create his own offense off the dribble and consistently put pressure on the defense. He is a reliable shot maker with range, pairs that with above-average quickness, and plays under control with the basketball. Gray also brings value on the defensive end as a willing, competitive on-ball defender.
