The 2026-27 Minnesota High School Basketball season is next up now that AAU is in the rear view mirror. So.... who are the Mr. Basketball candidates for this season? Lets dive into the list today!

Top Name

I don't think there is a run away top name. I think there are a lot of good candidates to consider but this is not a class where I would say there is a top name.

The Favorites

[player_tooltip player_id='2126117' first='Malachi' last='Hill'] of Totino-Grace. The two time state champion and double figure offered point guard will be among the short list favorites.

[player_tooltip player_id='2126118' first='Tyler' last='Forrest'] of Chaska. Another defending state champion offered by d1 schools, Tyler will be among those talked about as a favorite.

[player_tooltip player_id='2126467' first='Baboucarr' last='Ann'] of Maple Grove. The most recruited high major player in the class (now that Nur is going prep) took his team to state, also a Wisconsin commit.

[player_tooltip player_id='2126115' first='Vincent' last='Cronin'] of Edina. The Hornets forward committed to Miami of Ohio will have more new players around him which could led to Cronin having a chance to do more than others.

Top Ten Candidates

[player_tooltip player_id='2126108' first='Jack' last='Thelen'] of Maple Grove. I think the Crimson will put him in place to have a great year, I think being a Wisconsin commit will have the eyes on him, and Jack had a nice summer. But with two top guys on one team that can hurt (Ann) and bigs are often not where top individual player award committees often look.

[player_tooltip player_id='2569257' first='Marcus' last='Marshall'] of Minneapolis North. Marcus has a chance to lead North to a special season and he will be the main guy.

[player_tooltip player_id='2126464' first='Gavyn' last='Lorenson'] of Lake City. The UMD committed guard will put up the numbers but will the team have the success for him to get to the top groups?

[player_tooltip player_id='2417301' first='Hunter' last='Vinkemeier'] of Le Sueur-Henderson. Like Gavyn, the Augustana commit will have the numbers but will the team be good enough for the committee to bring eyes his way? Also, another big and bigs usually don't get the individual award love.

[player_tooltip player_id='2436914' first='Kellen' last='Troup'] of Minnehaha Academy. The defending state champion leader will be the main guy for a state contender once again.

[player_tooltip player_id='2533408' first='Deon' last='Wallace-Johnson'] of DeLaSalle. The do everything D1 offered guard has been a key figure in several state tournament teams.

[player_tooltip player_id='2126102' first='Jaeden' last='Udean'] of DeLaSalle. An amazing shooter that we would expect to have a big number year, he's likely to be in a fourth state tournament.

[player_tooltip player_id='2126466' first='Kobby' last='Sambrew'] of Prior Lake. I think this frontcourt standout is going to have a monster number senior year.

[player_tooltip player_id='1819128' first='Bryce' last='Gaustad'] of Anoka. The big man has been d1 offered and he has been a constant number producer.

[player_tooltip player_id='2362161' first='Matthew' last='Johnson'] of St. Louis Park. The several time D2 offered guard has a chance to put up some big numbers.

Other Names to Consider

[player_tooltip player_id='2126094' first='Ty' last='Schlagel'] of Cretin-Derham Hall. I don't know enough about the injury to the Nebraska commit but it sounds like it was tough, we wish Ty a speedy recovering and hope he can play next season. Hopefully it's like Isaac Olmstead and he has a strong and quick recovery.

[player_tooltip player_id='2126450' first='Gavin' last='Walter'] of Champlin Park. The former UNI commit is a skilled player with a chance to have a big year for a top ten potential team.

[player_tooltip player_id='2126458' first='Luke' last='Schroeder'] of Shakopee. He will have the numbers, will the team improve from 7 to 17 wins? If so he could climb the list.

[player_tooltip player_id='2524646' first='Griffin' last='Epema'] of Montevideo. Epema has had his team in the top five of Class AA the last couple years and will likely have them there again this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='2423114' first='Lincoln' last='Busse'] of Maranatha Christian Academy. If you score 26ppg as a junior and you are on a top ten tam for your senior year, you are going to be a name to consider.

[player_tooltip player_id='2416947' first='Ayden' last='Green'] of Minnehaha Academy. The point guard of a defending state champ and preseason number one will be in the conversation.

[player_tooltip player_id='2824358' first='Nicholas' last='Taylor'] of Lanesboro. The St. Cloud State committed talent should have a monster numbers year for the Burros.

[player_tooltip player_id='2877054' first='Asher' last='Wieberdink'] of Central Minnesota Christian. The four time NSIC offered big man will have his team in consideration for a state title.

[player_tooltip player_id='2412724' first='Dre' last='Collins'] of Richfield. Explosive Spartan top scorer led his team to state last season, could again this year.

[player_tooltip player_id='2126126' first='Ray' last='Brau'] of Hibbing. Brau will have the numbers and if he gets his team to state and top ten, maybe he has a shot.

[player_tooltip player_id='1956268' first='Shay' last='Jackson'] of Totino-Grace. He will be in the same backcourt as Hill so that could counter against but the CSP commit definitely has a chance.

[player_tooltip player_id='2877064' first='Carter' last='Brown'] of Duluth Denfeld. His monster numbers (28 and 13 per game last year) will be tough to ignore.
