Expert Analysis
Duvalier Johnson | Prep Hoops Scout
Dash has really looked as if he’s taken the weight room seriously since the end of the year, and it all comes out for his Mountain Stars team when he’s using that as the defensive enforcer. He is a in your face defendeer who makes you work, and that turns into easy scoring opportunities for him on the other end of the floor. Spann is a two-way standout for sure, as he gets it going offensively as well. He can shoot the 3-ball, he’s confident on the move, and he finishes well around the basket. Spann got minutes as a freshman on a team that doesn’t necessarily play freshman but his impact is undeniable. He’s a player who will be around and making some noise for the next few seasons, and we’ve seen him in multiple settings. Solid prospect.

Dash is a player who we’ve seen in the underclassman glue guy role during the high school season, so it was great to see him with the ball in his hands more and able to make plays. He showed flashes as he filled it up in various ways. What stands out first is his frame. His strength shines through as guards have a difficult time defending him, and we saw a few and-1 finishes in the game. He had a few big guards spin move finishes and then opened it up with a 3-pointer as well to showcase his versatility. He had a stretch of dominance, and the lead ballooned with him in the game. He’s physical, has a great feel, and is instinctive on both ends of the floor, and was a Day 1 standout.

has epitomized what it means to be a reliable player in just his first season as a ThunderRidge Grizzly. Knocking down nearly 100% of all his free throws in his recent matchups toward the end of his freshman year, Spann attacks the rim with ease and earns meaningful trips to the foul stripe. At 6’2 and still growing, Spann brings down rebounds and shoots over his matchup consistently. Defensively, Spann spaces the floor and communicates screens to his teammates. Currently ranked as the second-best combo guard in the class of 2029, the sky is the limit for Spann, who continues to evolve his game.

Spann has quickly proven he belongs among the top 2029 prospects with his two-way impact and physical presence. He’s a wing who scores when needed but makes his biggest mark defensively, often drawing the toughest assignments. His strength, versatility, and competitiveness keep him on the floor for a contender, and that is not something you see out of the other 2029s. As his offensive confidence grows with his shooting and scoring, his overall value and ranking stock continue climbing, but he makes the rankings for the first time and is one of the top players in the class.

Spann is a freshman, but he made his mark as an impact defender who embraces physicality. That will earn him extra minutes. He rebounds in traffic, has great timing on blocks, and picks up full court without hesitation. He finished through contact multiple times and consistently put himself in the right spots in helpside defense. His size, effort, and physical motor allow him to fit in right away. He belongs and showed he’s ready to contribute early on. We liked what we saw from Dash.
