From each of these classes, I picked one player who was the best player in the games I watched. They may or may not be the best player, but they either had the best performance, or they are too good to not list as the top player I saw in that class – see Miles Gurske Miles Gurske 6'0" | PG Rainier Beach | 2023 State WA
2026
I had him for at least 12 points in the game I saw. He was tough inside and used his big frame to muscle his way to the hoop. I was surprised to see that he’s only a freshman. He doesn’t look it and was actually one of the best performers in that game. Solid post moves and a good understanding of how to score in the paint.
2025
The kid was solid and the best player on the floor for a good bit of the time. He played with great confidence, getting to the basket to drop a couple nice floaters. He hit some shots from deep, and got after it on defense with good ball pressure. He was able to use his dribble well to get himself free, and didn’t turn it over. I had him for 16 points, but he probably had more. I also had him for 4 assists. Not a bad performance when you consider that it was probably in around 20 minutes on the floor. With a running clock.
Highlights
2024
Say it ain’t so! I thought he was a senior. This kid had one of the best performances I saw all day. He was lights out from deep. He got to the basket and was great at finishing plays. I think the most impressive thing about him was that he ran circles around the defense, either to go by or pull up and shoot. He was able to get himself free. He was the best player on the floor and his teammate Hunter Carter Hunter Carter 6’5″ | CG Annie Wright | 2024 CO was right in the mix as well. In fact there were another pair of teammates in Braydon Olson Braydon Olson 6’2″ | CG Mark Morris | 2024 State WA , and Peter Dress Peter Dress 6’6″ | SG Kamiakin | 2024 State WA , who could have also been here. Ultimately, this kid was too good and he played too hard to not be here.
2023
I was stuck between he and Marcel Hurst Marcel Hurst 6’4″ Cloverpark | 2023 WA , but he ultimately had the better game, so he gets the nod. I also think he was probably the best player in the field. I’ve said it before and I will say it again. He’s a pure scorer who is tough to stop. His quickness is elite and he uses it to get himself free when he’s not knocking down long range threes. As a guard he’s the best at finishing around the hoop that I saw. He has a knack for getting his shot off in traffic. He’s also good at drawing the contact and getting fouled. He will make some noise this year in the Metro league.
