Expert Analysis
Ryan Morgan | Prep Hoops Scout
Elston came into his senior season looking stronger and quicker, and as a guy who will get up in ballhandlers and challenge them, that extra physicality has been a big plus this winter. He’s a guy who plays to win the game, which means getting the ball to his guys where they like it. Whether that’s getting the ball to the post, hitting shooters off drive-and-kicks or skips, or looking up the court in transition, he spreads the ball around and plays unselfishly. That being said, he’s also proven to be a decent shot from 3-point and has looked even more threatening attacking gaps and getting into the paint this year.

Elston is a pretty prototypical point guard. He can handle the rock, get guys in the right spots, create off the bounce, and defend on the other end. But he also has some zip and can go get a bucket when his team needs one. In their game against Garfield, Elston hit several threes, tough midrange pull-ups, and was able to attack the middle to collapse the defense. He’s beefed up some since last season and looks poised to have a strong senior season as one of Eastside Catholic’s leaders.

Alex is surrounded by high level talent so sometimes he falls under the radar. Elston is a fantastic facilitator, knowing the game well and letting everything come natural and not forcing much. He handles the ball at an elite level and runs the pick and roll almost better than anyone in the state. I think he is easily a D2 level talent beyond high school.

Alex is a dynamic guard who is tough to guard due to his speed and solid handles. He gets down-hill well, improving his first step and having a variety if moves to help him get by defenders. Elston handles full court pressure with no problem, keeping his composure and more importantly his dribble. He’ll be a top point guard in the Metro League next year.

He’s a tough point guard who showed he can create going downhill and finished some tough buckets at the rim in the opening session. Elston also handled pressure well, evaded double teams and traps, and showed off some range from 3. He looked pretty aggressive searching for his shot and is a kid to watch in the next session.
