Expert Analysis

Dress showed a lot of fight and determination in what ended up being a pretty lopsided loss to Gonzaga Prep last Saturday. The first quarter was a good microcosm of the game overall as Kamiakin struggled to get things going but Dress came through time and again with tough buckets. Things got a little easier for him as the night went on, but he had to be ultra-aggressive searching for his shot, and some of the success he was able to get inside came on the back of some deep contested 3s he was able to bury. It was an impressive performance as Dress was shooting over defenders, creating space with hard jabs, and mixing in shots at the rim with strong drives and a couple of quick spin moves when defenders overplayed his drives. He was able to get Kamiakin back in it and actually had the deficit down to single digits in the third quarter, but Gonzaga Prep owned the fourth and ran away with it. Dress and the Braves need to win their next two games to represent their district at the 4A tournament.

How do you think your AAU & HS summer league went? What is your outlook on your upcoming season?
-I think my AAU went pretty successful, I played really consistently and showed different strengths of my game such as bringing the ball down against pressure, scoring inside and rebounding consistently in front of college coaches. I am excited to be the main guy again on a young inexperienced team and lead them towards being a winning team.
What are some things that stand out about your game? Things that coaches can see and know you excel at
-Some things that stand out about my game are my scoring ability at a high consistent level, my ability to rebound the basketball, and bringing the ball up against pressure.
What are you looking for in a school beyond HS?
-I am just looking for a school that believes in my ability to contribute to their team at a high level.
Have you been in contact with any coaches/schools? If so, what schools?
-I have been in contact with some D2s and a D1 school, I have been getting recruited by Air Force, I have been in contact with Azusa Pacific, Black Hills State, and a handful of D3 schools.
What do you want to improve on most in your game before playing at the next level?
-The one thing I want to improve on most in my game is Lateral quickness, I know I can guard 1-5 but if I can improve my lateral quickness it will make me a much better defender.

Dress is one of the true knockdown shooters in his class and he has begun to really incorporate that shooting touch from different areas of the floor, working more from the blocks last season and continuing to find more success at the rim this spring. However, while he shows improved strength and aggression, his perimeter defense can still be a weakness. Improving his lateral quickness would go a long way to helping him improve on the other side of the ball and also continue to help him score from different areas on the floor.

Previous Rank: 42rnThe tall Kamiakin guard is a lights-out shooter with some extraordinary range. He showed that all summer and throughout the high school season. What helped him rise the rankings this go around was his work outside of shooting the ball. Dress is a big kid at 6-foot-5 and really improved on his rebounding as well as his overall fight in the paint. He averaged a double-double on the year, 21 points and 10 rebounds, as well as doing some playmaking for the Braves, chipping in four assists per game.

Coming into his junior season there was a lot of points to be had with the graduation of 4 starters. He has done what I expected and more. He is averaging a double-double at 24 points and 10 rebounds through six games. Kamiakin is 5-1 during that stretch. He is a great shooter with size to play the stretch three. I like his toughness and willingness to go get rebounds. He can play inside and out with his rugged style on the boards and soft touch on his shots. His early season stats have him among the favorites for Mid-Co player of the year. I watched him over the summer a couple of times and have always been impressed with his desire to compete.

He had 31 points in a 72-70 overtime win vs West Valley. I watched him a few times in the off-season. I’m not surprised. He is a great shooter with range and he plays hard. He gets points in the paint and rebounds well. Not only is he talented but that extra effort often will lead to buckets. He is a tough match-up with size and shooting ability from the wing. He will be counted on heavily this year for a Kamiakin team that graduated a ton of talent.
