Expert Analysis
Devin Record | Prep Hoops Scout
How do you think your team and yourself performed throughout this season?rn-As a team we always could’ve done better, coming up short and losing 1st round was disappointing. There were good stretches in the season and bad but that comes with the game. Personal performance was okay, making First Team All-Metro with 4 other D1 guys is cool but not being able to lead my team further in the tournament was a let down
What was the biggest obstacle you and your team faced this season?rn-Our biggest obstacle was ourselves, we could never click as a team and play together.
What do you think you improved most on the court?rn-Something I improved on during the season was my shooting ability, and finishing at the rim over bigger defenders.
What are you looking to improve before the next level?rn-Getting to open spots in the mid range and improving my strength and foot quickness.
Who are some teammates that you think stood out this season? Who are some teammates who could have breakout years next year in your eyes?rn-Some players that stood out were

Strengths: Dribble Penetration, Crafty Rim Finisher, Communicator
Breakdown: Gurske’s game is getting into the heart of the defense and making plays. He has a knack for positioning his body between the ball and defenders to create shooting lanes and can hit tough contested shots inside. He also has good vision finding shooters off of his drives, and consistently draws that extra defender to free up looks on the outside. He can hit from behind the arc, but it still looks like an area for improvement. The real jewel in his game is his ability to soften defenses with his dribble. He’s got a strong hesitation dribble that freezes defenders, and he almost always catches the ball on-balance and ready to make a move.
Outlook: In the right offense, Gurske has the potential to be a high-motor slashing point guard who can pick out the right option while moving at a fast pace. Make that three-pointer a knockdown shot and you have someone who can stretch the floor and put even more pressure on defenses.

Gurske is an elite paint touch getter that was impossible to stay in front of. He has schloarship level speed and quickness, and was able to get his shot off whenever he wanted. Gurske showed the ability to shoot it from three, as well as breakdown opponents and finish at the rim.

This lightening quick point guard showed that burst off on Saturday, getting to the hole and finishing through lots of traffic. We knew about his dynamic scoring ability after last season, but he looks ready to be a true floor general this year, communicating with teammates and taking advantage of all the talent around him. There is enough firepower at Beach to share the scoring load, but Gurske should be one of the more consistent players they have and will be able to rack up the assists as he breaks down defenses off the dribble.

He’s moving to the Metro league this season and playing for Rainier Beach. He averaged 19PPG at Timberline last season, the move to a tougher league won’t be a problem for him. He’s a great shooter and can fill it up from well beyond the arc. His release is one of the quickest you’ll find. He has a knack for getting himself to the basket and being able to finish over taller defenders. He’s a great ball handler, keeping it quick, low, and tight. He put up 37 in a game last year. I think he’ll be able to prove himself on a bigger stage in the better league, and will still be one of the best players in that league. He can take care of the ball for you, and get his teammates involved. He’s deceptively quick and blows by the defense often. He’ll be one to watch this year as he shows his talents vs tough teams in the Metro league.

He will be the MVP of the Metro league this year. He didn’t play in it last year, he was at Timberline. No need to worry about how he’ll do in the toughest league in the state. I would have never said this three months ago. Now that I have watched more of him, I feel confident in this prediction. What does he do best? He is exceptional at getting to the rack and finishing. He’s a great three point shooter with range. He’s quick and can handle the rock. There will be some stiff competition for this honor but he will be in the running.
