Ryan Morgan | Prep Hoops Scout
Armstrong returns to Washington after a brief stay at Austin Prep Academy in Texas, and now suits up at Rainier Beach. The strong forward was a revelation last season with West Seattle and showed just how impactful he can be with his motor and ability around the paint. He’s flashed in spots so far this winter and should continue to be an impactful player for the Vikings up front.

Armstrong put together an outstanding season in the state’s toughest league. He’s got the strength and short space burst to beat his man from the blocks in several ways and was easily one of the most physical forwards in his class this year. He’s a tough rebounder, hard worker, and showed no fear going at some of the top bigs in the state this season. He’ll be a kid to track who could continue his quick rise up the rankings, and it looks like he has the “it” factor that coaches look for.

Armstrong was really impressive in their game against Garfield last Saturday and showed he’s on track to be a reliable post presence for West Seattle. What stood out most was his strength and ability to play around bodies. He was pushing guys off the blocks, getting to strong bases with the ball to go up through bodies under the hoop, and made a couple of nice blocks inside. He was constantly battling through multiple guys inside to bring down boards and defend the paint.

Armstrong is a strong kid who chases down rebounds and loose balls, shows some ability to handle the rock, and can finish around bodies inside. He does a lot of his work around the paint but looks like a kid who can do some more damage on the wings as time goes on. He shows a good stroke from midrange and at the stripe and should get some more opportunities at Mt Rainier next winter.
