Springdale National (MD) vs Archbishop Carroll (DC)

Court 3: 1PM

This is a matchup between two of the more gritty, hardhat type of programs that you'll find in the DMV and I fully expect it to live up to its billing. Springdale features top-15 guard in the 2027 Prep Hoops MD/DC rankings in [player_tooltip player_id='2889373' first='Jay' last='Green'] (Alabama A&M) who will run the show for the reigning Maryland Private School state champs, but he plays alongside a list of talented, versatile teammates. The No. 1 ranked prospect in our 2029 rankings, [player_tooltip player_id='2767938' first='Jordan' last='Costley'], is the biggest draw as he'll look to make a statement before heading off to compete in USA Minicamp the following weekend. 2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2370950' first='Larry' last='Duncan'] is a wing that has continued to build buzz thanks to his size, athleticism and two-way impact while 2028 [player_tooltip player_id='2326276' first='Corban' last='Woodard'] brings an added ingredient of toughness defensively and a low maintenance, efficient offensive approach.

On the other side is Archbishop Carroll out of the WCAC. Head coach Malcolm Battle accepts nothing less than a tough-nosed, fearless energy and while this year's team may not have the star power that last year's team did with Anthony Brown (Vanderbilt), I'd argue they have the nastiness that Battle loves. It starts with 2027 lead guard [player_tooltip player_id='2353541' first='Bam' last='Bolding']. Another top-15 prospect in our 2027 rankings, Bolding's blend of intensity, velocity and competitiveness flows through those that he shares the floor with. Alongside Bolding in the backcourt is 2028 [player_tooltip player_id='2731617' first='Ellis' last='Johnson'], who should supply a further splash as a shot maker. Elsewhere around the roster are a host of 6'5"-6'7" wings that can guard multiple positions, rebound at a high rate and complement each other offensively. 2028 [player_tooltip player_id='2524445' first='Kaleb' last='Clark'], 2028 [player_tooltip player_id='2610833' first='Truth' last='Kelly'] and 2028 [player_tooltip player_id='2388168' first='Chima' last='Amadi'] are all noteworthy.

Clinton Grace (MD) vs Coatesville (PA)

Court 1: 4PM

One of the marquee matchups of the entire event, this contest features two of the best prospects in the 2027 and 2028 classes as Butler commit [player_tooltip player_id='2139297' first='J'Lon' last='Lyons'] leads Clinton Grace against 2028 five-star [player_tooltip player_id='2485359' first='Colton' last='Hiller'] and Coatesville. Lyons and his team are coming off a weekend spent in Kentucky competing in The Grind Session Power Play-In where he and a few others put forth productive showings. The ball will be in Lyons hands as he's expected to generate much of the offense for the Eagles, but 2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2353555' first='Malachi' last='Terrell'] and 2028 [player_tooltip player_id='2880748' first='Cam' last='Shields'] Jr. left The Bluegrass State leaving strong impressions on the season ahead.

Hiller is considered as one of the best high school prospects regardless of class. With some expected reclass announcements in the future, he could easily take over the No. 1 spot for the 2028 national class and his presence, production and efficiency support those claims. He was dominant at The Big 64 earlier this month and the addition of 2028 [player_tooltip player_id='2194361' first='Yasir' last='Turner'] will pay dividends when it comes to having another dynamic playmaker to relieve some of the pressure as opposing teams throw 2-to-3 guys Hiller's way.

Gillion Academy (VA) vs Broad & Vine (Roman Catholic)

Court 3: 6PM

Gillion heads to Spooky Nook with a roster that has no shortage of talent. Their headlining prospect is 2029 Alex Alexander, who has established himself early in his high school career as one of top 20 prospects in the country at 6-foot-10 packed with athleticism. The trio of guards who I'm most familiar with are 2027 Sean Nix, 2027 Cam'Ron Austin and 2028 Aaron Bryant. All of which have the ability to get buckets in bunches, but have grown in their last two seasons as playmakers and should've built some cohesions over the last few months.

On the Roman Catholic side of things, they'll rely heavily on the production of 2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2977917' first='Sabir' last='Lyn'], 2028 [player_tooltip player_id='2450665' first='Brad' last='Wanamaker Jr']. and 2029 [player_tooltip player_id='2919981' first='Shayne' last='Jackson']. They pose good positional size throughout their roster and as they look to take the next step in preparing for the always tough Philly Catholic League, going up against an athletic, lengthy and energetic bunch like Gillion will be a great test to see where they stand at this point of the calendar year.

Mount St. Joseph (MD) vs Penn Charter (PA)

Court 1: 5PM

Another matchup between teams with skilled backcourts, the Gaels of Mount St. Joseph will take on Penn Charter, who has one of the best 2028 prospect in the region in [player_tooltip player_id='2450669' first='Carter' last='Smith']. Smith's recruitment continues to soar throughout the P5 conferences and for good reason. He's a volume shot maker who over the last year, has really improved with his play creation for others. There's a sense of comfort rolling out the ball and allowing him to quarterback the game that wasn't quite there if you rewind back to last fall. Others such as 2028 Brady Erfle and 2028 [player_tooltip player_id='2397565' first='Daniel' last='Gilhool'] should have no issues leaving their imprint on the game as both have size (Erfle at 6'6", Gilhool at 6'10") and ability to space the floor.

The Gaels' backcourt consists of a 2028 duo on [player_tooltip player_id='2546067' first='Aaron' last='Early Jr.'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2194760' first='Chauncey' last='Word']. Both play alongside each other for [program_tooltip program_id='2076999' first='Team' last='Melo'], so the chemistry and cohesion experience no drop off to the high school season. Early is coming off a productive summer and now generating Division I offers and interest with his combination of positional size as a combo guard and shot creation. What Word lacks in purse size, he makes up for with a tenacious mindset on both ends. He'll rise up and can put defenders on posters at 5'10" and give opposing guards fits with his active hands defensively. The edge in this game could rest on the shoulders of 2027 big man Kenneth Anthony, who embraced his strengths with New World this summer and could make and impact around the rim as a scorer and rebounder.

Westtown (PA) vs Clinton Grace (MD)

Court 1: 7PM

This game is loaded with guard talent. As I mentioned in Clinton Grace's first matchup, Lyons will be a headlining name and for good reason as he looks to back his top-50 national status against a Division I backcourt for Westtown in [player_tooltip player_id='2427312' first='Wilson' last='Udo'] (Brown) and [player_tooltip player_id='2452096' first='Ajani' last='Stewart'] (Florida Gulf Coast). Other names such as 2028 [player_tooltip player_id='2743616' first='Peace' last='Brand'] and 2028 [player_tooltip player_id='2846292' first='Victor' last='Lagerkvist'], two forwards who have made steady progression in their developments this summer. Lagerkvist is skilled enough to take over the ball handling duties when needed as Brand is starting to turn the corner with his aggression in attacking the rim, knocking down shots off the catch and being a presence around the basket defensively.

While the guards will battle it out here, it'll come down to the production from 2028 [player_tooltip player_id='2880748' first='Cam' last='Shields'] Jr., 2028 [player_tooltip player_id='2357976' first='Toran' last='Ayana'] and 2028 [player_tooltip player_id='3546861' first='Aidon' last='Neal'] at the forward spots to help put the Eagles at some sort of advantage.
