-Anything that his team needs in a particular game, Woodard can provide as an explosive wing prospect that is just as likely to throw down a put-back dunk as he is to operate in the side PnR. Woodard took a defensive rebound C2C to throw down an emphatic 1-handed dunk, rejected a screen to slice to the rim and hit a floater off the window, caught a rocket of a chest pass in traffic in the paint and floated a touch shot before the defense could react, and sprinted ahead to throw down a 1-handed dunk in transition to put a bow on a nice close-out win for his team. Love his versatility at the defensive end as a wing that can trail shooters effectively, shade ball-handlers in the middle of the floor, and come up with rebounds in traffic amongst the trees in the paint.

What we hoped Woodard would be for this Thrill group was exactly the case this weekend as the southpaw guard/wing that is tough, rugged and can make things happen without the ball. You instantly notice the impact that he makes coming off the bench and it’s a huge piece for head coach Nardie Bogues to throw him on the other team’s best perimeter player and put them on lock. He was disruptive in passing lanes, prideful on the defensive glass and really made an impression in transition as a lob threat. If he wasn’t catching and finishing in mid-air, Woodard was streaking the lanes wide where he beat his man to the cup and finished above the rim with two hands on a handful of opportunities.

It won’t be long before Woodard carves out a valuable role in this talented Thrill 16s rotation and it’ll be because of all the intangibles he brings. The positional size combined with the plus length, sneaky athleticism and willingness to impact the game beyond the box score are all factors that grassroots coaches hope to find in building a potential championship roster. Woodard showed off his worth on the offensive end yesterday sprinting the lanes wide before darting to the rim and throwing down lobs in transition. There were a few designed lob plays for him in a half court setting and he was where he was supposed to be, but the lack of accuracy on the pass deterred the finish. He’s a connector who will bring energy off the bench and it wouldn’t surprise me for certain matchups if Woodard isn’t inserted into the starting lineup when a defensive punch is needed.

Another prospect that fits that ‘connector’ label is Woodard. The 6-foot-4 southpaw guard/wing made presence known as he helped in big efforts down the stretch for a Springdale Prep team that would claim the Maryland Private School State title. He’s a high-energy guard that brings intensity no matter if he’s in the starting lineup or coming off the bench. Towards the end of the season, head coach Tyrone Johnson used him as the spark plug in a sixth man role and it seemed like he embraced the duty every time he entered the game for the first time. He picks his man up full court and moves well laterally while using his plus length to close passing windows when guarding the ball or cause deflections in the passing lanes off of it. He’s a rebounding presence, can effectively guard 1-3 positions and doesn’t hesitate to give up his body for a hustle play.

9p 3r 2a 2s vs PGCA
-Woodard is always good for several LOUD athletic plays and this conference matchup with PGCA was no different. His ability to hang in midair to readjust and score around or over opponents raises his floor as a prospect. Woodard started things off with a pro hop with a high pickup to split the gap between two defenders and score at the rim, scored on a baseline cut from the corner to catch and land on two before pivoting to the rim to lay it in, had a 1-handed dime to the corner shooter off a middle drive, and collected a steal before hitting an acrobatic hanging double-clutch and1-finish at the rim late in the first OT period. His ability to pressure the basketball and guard 1-3 should make him a valuable commodity on the circuit this spring.

It’s becoming routine for Woodard to come in off the bench and immediately impact the game wit his defensive activity. His active hands, anticipation skills, and wingspan make him a terror in passing lanes or in traps. The finishing around the rim wasn’t the most efficient, but he did have a couple of big dunks in the second half to answer Clinton Grace’s late game run. All in all, Woodard demands our attention every time he takes the floor thanks to his ability to generate plays without sets or situations being called specifically for him.

Woodard threw down one of the handful of poster dunks Friday evening and it was just one layer of his impressive showing. The southpaw sophomore immediately injected more energy for Springdale off the bench with elite defensive instincts that resulted in deflections, steals, and run out opportunities for quick scores. Woodard was extremely efficient as a scorer and while the majority of his buckets came around or above the rim, he did venture out and knock down a triple as he finished with 17 points on 8/9 FG, six assists, five steals, and three rebounds.

Woodard is a hybrid of an off guard and a swingman. He is very versatile and is a viable plug n play option. He plays with an energetic motor. Woodard showcased his in-between game with a nice mid-range shot. He was a frequent customer at the foul line. He used his length to get rebounds. The southpaw has a smooth shooting stroke. Intrigued long-term by Woodard as a prospect.

-Super athletic off guard prospect burst onto the scene with a strong weekend of play at The Challenge and in Bowie later in the month. Woodard uses his athleticism to jump passing lanes, serve as a dynamic prospect both on the ball and running the lanes in transition with his ability to shoot and play above the rim. Like his aggressiveness as a slasher in the halfcourt. He never really backs down when his defender cuts off his path to the rim, he just uses a retreat dribble then goes right back to trying to get two feet in the paint. Excited to see how he is utilized in a DEEP Springdale Prep rotation.

-Really liked the flashes that I saw from Woodard as he has already cracked a deep Springdale Prep rotation. He’s an explosive, dynamic athlete that makes a ton of plays in the air as a shot-blocker, finisher, slasher, and scorer. Love his utility within their rotation as a versatile prospect that can play 1-3 both on the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. Had a big steal and dunk to seal a win in 2OT in their first matchup of the day
