Defending Champs Reload With Meyers Leading Way

We started the day off by checking out the defending 4A Champs Marist as they won 66-42 over Walter Payton. Marist has only one returner in top 20 2027 power forward [player_tooltip player_id='2125658' first='Kendall' last='Meyers']. He is primed to be the leader and played like it over the weekend. Playmaking face up four man is intriguing with his frame, skill level, and ability to impact the game in a number of ways. Pushes off the defensive glass for scores in transition while also being a major threat s a passer. Finished through contact inside and was active with his hands on the defensive end netting 20 points. Class of 2028 guard [player_tooltip player_id='2834549' first='Jacob' last='Jones'] had a nice showing at 6'1” playing on and off the ball. Strong with the rock getting to his spots for jumpers as he had 12 points. Rising senior [player_tooltip player_id='2429730' first='Matthew' last='Greene'] is a 6'5” forward that has some bounce to his game as the length plays above the rim and defensively. Went for 7 points. My first look at 2030 Robert Smith Jr in a high school uniform as he drained a three in limited minutes.

For Walter Payton it was the [player_tooltip player_id='2947403' first='Orlando' last='Bohlen'] show! One of the better shooting guards in the 2029 presents projectability with his length and fluid athleticism. Plus plus shooter off the catch pouring them in from behind the arc at a super high late. Mixed in some takes getting to the charity stripe finishing with 21 points. [player_tooltip player_id='2396333' first='Sean' last='Souter'] is a tough undersized guard that can really shoot it as he had 8 points. [player_tooltip player_id='3010128' first='Carter' last='Slaise'] is a new transfer to track with his athleticism, inside/outside game, and rebounding.

Mt. Carmel is Ready for Prime Time

The Mt. Carmel Caravan went 4-0 on the weekend and look like they are ready to make some noise in the juiced up new Chicago Catholic League. Recorded a 54-37 win over Thornton. It starts with the potential #1 and #2 2029s in the state in [player_tooltip player_id='2767906' first='Ronald' last='Johnson'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2915584' first='DK' last='Heard']. They are playing with confidence and it shows with the results. Heard is a rangy two way wing that can slash, rebounds, and defend multiple positions at a high level. He had 8 points. Johnson is a player that does so many things well. Strong bodied guard is a crisp passer with feel running the team. Creative handles getting in paint doing damage for himself and others. Powerful downhill slasher that can knock down a three ball. Monster on ball defender! He had 7 points. Elite football prospect [player_tooltip player_id='2877491' first='Marshaun' last='Thornton'] is back on the hardwood doing what he does best which is being an elite utility guy who has proven to be a lock down defender blocking shots and getting numerous steals. Plays above the rim in transition. Connective passer. Went for 10 points. Senior wing [player_tooltip player_id='2403910' first='Logan' last='Wessel'] had a strong outing. Good positional size and skill combination here as he can let it fly at a good clip from distance. Give and go finish, transition dunk, and laup on a cut off the ball. Expect a big year from him as he had 13 points. Tim Adrenele is a 6'11” five man to track. Still a bit raw, but you can not teach the size. Had a put back and right handed hook. [player_tooltip player_id='2532005' first='Kai' last='Harvey'] had a nice showing as well for the Caravan as a secondary ball handler and slick driver netting 6 points.

No Nesbitt for Thornton this weekend so it was the DeAndre Higgs show. Strong and stocky wing that plays with physicality off the bounce along with knocking in several jumpers in the mid-range for 9 points. Lefty combo guard [player_tooltip player_id='2948461' first='Kobe' last='Stevenson'] is a plus perimeter shot maker that had 10 points.

Tough and Defensive Minded Rich Township Stops Joliet West

Next up was Rich Township with a 56-37 victory against Joliet West. Their team defense was outstanding which is no shock for a Louis Adams coached squad. Play well as a group and get the most out of ability. [player_tooltip player_id='2632077' first='Jeremiah' last='Weatherford'] had a nice outing with 8 points. The combo guard is a sound distributor that pushes the pace in transition and defends both backcourt spots. Guards [player_tooltip player_id='3660873' first='TJ' last='Smith'], [player_tooltip player_id='2323672' first='Amari' last='Winters'], and [player_tooltip player_id='2416198' first='TJ' last='Eaton'] each had 6 points. Four quality ball handlers that are also solid defenders. Big man [player_tooltip player_id='3624181' first='Ty'ron' last='Holcomb'] brought the toughness inside with his physical finishes through contact, rim runs, and alley-oop slams for 8 points.

The 2030 trio of [player_tooltip player_id='3664728' first='Chad' last='Carter Jr'], [player_tooltip player_id='3649648' first='Carson' last='Carter'], and [player_tooltip player_id='2369892' first='Connor' last='Carter'] are the future for Joliet West. Chad is the most highly touted of the trio coming into high school The 6'3” shooting guard has burst on straight line takes and loves to put pressure on the rim in transition. Capable passer to shooters and flashed defensively scoring 7 points. Class of 2029 6'0” two guard Vinny Sandon caught my attention as a plus perimeter shooter off the catch with defend athleticism scoring 11 points.

Lyons Storms Back to Knock Off Plainfield East Behind Smith and Sloan

It was the best Plainfield East played this weekend, but wasn't quite enough as Lyons stormed back late to win 67-65. [player_tooltip player_id='2538631' first='Grant' last='Smith'] for LT might have been the biggest stock riser in the 2028 class this weekend as the already top 10 junior dominated game after game. High energy combo forward is a plus athlete that put it on the deck for dunks, ran the floor hard, was outstanding rebounding, knocked in jumpers, and defended. He had 24 points in the win. [player_tooltip player_id='2839879' first='Timmy' last='Sloan'] is an under appreciated 2027 prospect as the lead guard has elite positional size with outstanding passing diming up his teammates with crisp passes. Can also score too getting to the rim off the bounce, stopping and popping in the mid-range, along with hitting several threes as he had 12 points. Fellow senior [player_tooltip player_id='3564547' first='Grayson' last='Lee'] put his name on the map as a 6'4” small forward who was a plus spot up three point shooter along with a skilled passer. Can attack a close out as he had 16 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2406554' first='KJ' last='Miller'] saved his best game of the weekend for last as the lanky point guard shot it as well as he did all event coming out firing with multiple threes on the wing showcasing his feathery touch. It was mostly the jumper that made an impression in this game, but he did flash solid passing around ball screens along with potential defensively while scoring 19 points. Class of 2028 shooting guard Matt Cohen has nice size and the lefty is a plus spot up shot maker as he drained multiple en route to 16 points. Couple seniors to keep on the small college radar are [player_tooltip player_id='2104717' first='Gyles' last='Agyeman'] with his rebounding and finishing inside for 11 points. Then 6'4” power forward [player_tooltip player_id='2907626' first='Ryland' last='Anyimadu'] had 6 points as a junk yard dog post.

Trio of Top 20 Rising Senior Wings Clash as Glenbard North Tops Kenwood

The Glenbard North 56-43 win against Kenwood saw three of the top wings in the 2027 class. For Glenbard North [player_tooltip player_id='2455373' first='Oturo' last='Redento'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2125660' first='Lamari' last='Carpenter'] gave college coaches a good feel for what they brought to the table. Redento is a stat sheet stuffing wing who contributes across the board. Slippery driver, quality spot up shooter, outstanding passer, and rebounds. His best asset might be his multi positional defensive ability. He had 17 points in the victory. [player_tooltip player_id='2125660' first='Lamari' last='Carpenter'] is another future D1 prospect who dropped 19 points in this game. Wiry two guard that displayed his shot making from the perimeter, transition scoring, and much improved passing. Keep tabs on [player_tooltip player_id='2848533' first='Logan' last='Kramer'] in 2028 as a 6'3” sharp shooter as he had 9 points all on triples.

[player_tooltip player_id='2323622' first='Damari' last='Stephens'] is the go to guy for Kenwood. Big bodied wing that plays bully ball off the bounce with nimble footwork finishing in the paint. He had 19 points in the loss.

Veteran's Step Up for Iggy as St. Ignatius Scores Victory vs Bloom in Fun Battle

St. Ignatius looked really good in a 76-54 W against a talented young Bloom squad. Their star is 2028 point guard [player_tooltip player_id='2531962' first='Amir' last='Tucker']. Lead guard has grown, added some strength, and game continues to improve each time we see him. Plus three point shooter with a smooth stroke from distance. Mixed in floaters and scoop shots. Euro step conversions in the lane and did a nice job setting up his teammates while scoring 26 points. [player_tooltip player_id='2125620' first='Duke' last='Ross'] is a productive senior wing that is going to be a priority at the small college level as he is playing the best hoops of his career. Good size and a plus shot from three. More of a threat with the ball in his hands decking it and pushing off the defensive glass. Went for 24 points. Lot of skilled pieces on this squad including fellow senior [player_tooltip player_id='2839874' first='Chris' last='Chittaro']. Crafty lefty combo who brings the ability to hit a spot up three along with score on nifty drives. Connective passer and competes as he had 11 points. Class of 2029 forward [player_tooltip player_id='2441810' first='Teddy' last='Dana'] continues to grow on me as a fundamentally sound wing that puts it on the deck and has a nice skill level.

Bloom 2030 point guard [player_tooltip player_id='3665027' first='Larry' last='Ellis'] went off for his squad in this game. The incoming freshman is an elite shot maker that made one after another against Iggy both pulling up and off the catch. Clean and easy release. Pushes ahead and is a slick passer notching 17 points. [player_tooltip player_id='2918202' first='Kaden' last='McClellan'] with another strong game mixing in his acrobatic takes and long ball for 8 points. Power guard [player_tooltip player_id='2918205' first='Keiwon' last='Gulley'] attacks the cup with ferocity and burst going for 11 points. Bright future for Bloom!

New Trier Wins vs Pontiac Rival Curie

New Trier and Curie often meet up in the quarters or semis in Pontiac, but they did it six months early on court five at RB Sunday as New Trier scored a 63-57 win. The senior wings impressed as [player_tooltip player_id='2839877' first='Elton' last='Jaegerskog'] and [player_tooltip player_id='3430149' first='Matthew' last='Logue'] bring toughness, shot making, and positional size. Class of 2028 wing [player_tooltip player_id='2438564' first='Fintan' last='Pierce'] popped up as a name to track at 6'3” solid handles and passing instincts.

[player_tooltip player_id='2877501' first='Malik' last='Horton'] at the point continues to shine for Curie. Plus shooter in the mid-range and off the catch from his lead guard spot. [player_tooltip player_id='2844456' first='Amir' last='Green'] is a bouncy forward that is a pogo stick athlete around the cup blocking shots along with a nice 12 foot jumper.

Fenwick Edges Past Thornwood in Game Showcasing Underclassmen Talent

This was maybe my favorite game of the day! Fenwick got a close 60-56 win over Thornwood. Fenwick has a leader in 2027 point guard Luke Vongluekait and is surrounded with a lot of young talent who we will be tracking over the next several years. The senior guard is a quality ball handler, decision maker, and plays through contact on drives as he had 8 [points. In the 2028 class it was Danny Lange who put his name on our radar. The 6'6” power forward is a southpaw that has some projection along with skill around the hoop and runs the floor well for 8 points. A pair of 2029 guards we saw in the spring continue to pop in 6'1” combo guard [player_tooltip player_id='2394774' first='Corey' last='Griffin'] and 6'2” shooting guard Donavan Rodgers. Griffin is a crisp ball handler with a lethal shot both pulling up and off the catch as he went for 13 points. Rodgers is a three and D athlete that can also get out in the open floor as he had 7 points. Their 6'6” center Major Staley has an awesome name and game to back it up! Legit size and snatched rebounds in bunches for the Friars. Ran the floor hard and even knocked in a three. Then we have 2030 incoming freshman forward [player_tooltip player_id='2411075' first='Noah' last='Marshall'] who is the younger brother of Michigan football player Nathaniel Marshall who also starred as a dual sport star for Fenwick. Same looks to be true with Noah as the 6'4” forward showed great instincts for a young player with his passing and rebounding in his area.

Absolute monster performance from Thornwood 2028 guard Mekhi Youong. Wiry PG was a straight bucket getting to the rim with his speed, using angles, and finishing with body control at the cup. Sweeping layups, float game, and knock down shot maker. Made some impressive plays defensively as well blocking shots on a recovery and being pesky with his hands as he scored 18 points. His running mate [player_tooltip player_id='2877539' first='Lester' last='Watson'] plays with speed and impacted defensively as well finishing with 14 points. Class of 2027 6'3” guard [player_tooltip player_id='2532333' first='Jordan' last='Johnson'] put his name on our map as a strong bodied guard who has a free and easy shot. Strong with the ball, passes on the move, and has a clean looking jumper going for 11 points. Inside they have a pair of intriguing pieces. [player_tooltip player_id='3427306' first='Antwaun' last='Sims'] Jr is a thick bodied 6'5” center that rebounds in his area and plays with physicality. Kingston Harris in 2029 brings projection as a broad shouldered post with length that can snatch rebounds.

Peoria Central's Turner Buries Three to Send Game to OT Before Winning vs Wheaton Academy Led Schroeder

Final game of the event was Peoria Central coming back to record an overtime win against Wheaton Academy 65-63. The 2028 guard trio went to work for Peoria Central as [player_tooltip player_id='2834186' first='Nigel' last='Moore'] was burning speed down the floor consistently putting pressure on the defense. Creative finisher at the cup that plays off his defense getting steals for points. Flashy passer as well while scoring 16 points in the victory. [player_tooltip player_id='3665311' first='Kayden' last='Turner'] is a two guard with nice size and a super clean perimeter shot. That is where he brings the most value as a shot maker off the catch including coming off a DHO for a triple to send the game to OT. Smooth and effortless stroke. Mixed in pull ups in the mid-range along with passing in the half court scoring 15 points. The third 2028 guard is [player_tooltip player_id='3597945' first='Damarion' last='Taylor']. Pitbull defender at the point of attack that brings juice with the rock in his hands off the dribble along with getting to the foul line. Class of 2029 point guard Daniel Ruffin is a solid guard that flashed as a scorer and defender for 5 points. [player_tooltip player_id='3597839' first='Cyrow' last='Childs'] is going to be a 6'6” four man that small colleges and JUCOs should look at in 2027. High-motor power forward gets on the offensive glass for second chance points and finishes out of the dunker spot.

Wheaton Academy got a monster performance out of 2027 power forward [player_tooltip player_id='2125634' first='Hayden' last='Schroeder']. The skilled power forward was unstoppable in the post with his quick spin moves, nifty footwork, and relentless motor. One of the best big men in the class dropped 24 points in the loss. Solidified his standing as one of the two premier posts in the state's 2027 class in front of college coaches over weekend. [player_tooltip player_id='2769579' first='Ray' last='Rienow'] is a player who has impressed a few times over the last year as a 6'6” small forward with skill in 2028.
