DK showed why he’s one of the top 2029 prospects in Illinois high school basketball. The 6’5 wing already features good positional size, with explosive athleticism that allows him to play above the rim. Throughout the weekend he threw down some impressive dunks while also showcasing the handle and shooting touch to create space and hit pull-up jumpers. Despite this his defensive intensity was perhaps his most impressive trait. He embraced the challenge of defending an opposing team’s best player, and was constantly looking to pressure the ball. Vocal player who competes with a ton of energy.

One of the more explosive high-level athletes on Mac Irvin’s 2029 team this spring. Runs the floor hard both ways looking to apply pressure defensively and then be in attack mode in transition phase. Has the speed and motor to really turn things up a notch quickly. Shows a natural feel within flow. Uses strength to draw fouls to get to the stripe on drives or off the dunker area. Dynamic positionless player that adds a punch to multiple facets of game.

The other freshman for the Caravan, Heard’s athleticism jumps off the floor and will be a crucial part of Mt. Carmel’s success this season. At 6’5″, his long frame was a constant defensive disruptor, getting into passing lanes to shut down actions and generate steals and deflections. His vertical pop added another layer, helping him time blocks and contest scoring attempts at the rim. His overall activity in the paint was hard to miss.
The biggest takeaway came in the matchup against Lake Forest Academy: Heard’s effort on the glass. I charted five offensive rebounds for him, each contributing to second-chance points, extended possessions, and trips to the free-throw line. He fights for position, gets off the floor quickly, and consistently high-points the ball. Heard’s motor, length, and athletic tools give him real impact now — and even bigger upside moving forward.
