We're entering the stretch run for the Class 5A District races. Here's a check in on the top teams challenging for the 5A District Titles.

Also Considered

Coweta 12-4

Lawton 10-3

McAlester 13-4

Noble 12-5

10. Edison 9-7

It was a coin flip between the Eagles and the McAlester for the 10th spot. Edison has sought out a tough tournament schedule, which has led to a few more losses but also a signature win over East Central. The Eagles have one of the best athletes in the class with senior [player_tooltip player_id='2404886' first='Nehemiah' last='Liggins']. He flies around and makes plays above the rim on both ends of the court. With freshman AY Pinder providing a boost from the guard spot, Edison has a chance to peak the right time for a playoff run.

9. Collinsville 15-2

Senior [player_tooltip player_id='3102293' first='Dylan' last='Scyrkels'] is a skilled scorer, with great positional size for a high school two guard. He's led Collinsville to an impressive start, including an overtime win over district rivals Edison. Because of that win, the Cardinals are well positioned to earn a Regional hosting spot. Joining Scyrkels in becoming a consistent scoring option is junior [player_tooltip player_id='2140725' first='Brevin' last='Walters']. The duo gives Collinsville the ability to navigate a tough East Side in their quest for a third straight 5A State Tournament appearance.

8. Midwest City 13-2

The Bombers are undefeated in district play and headed into a big rivalry game tomorrow against Carl Albert. Four year starter Deshawn Denson II is over 1500 points for his career and averaging close to 30 points this season. But to keep the State Tournament tradition alive for the proud program, he can't do it all alone. Junior [player_tooltip player_id='2423499' first='Kenyon' last='Brown'] recently returned from a knee injury and he hopefully he gets up to speed soon. While senior [player_tooltip player_id='1987389' first='Caleb' last='Stephens'] had promising play at the Shawnee tournament.

7. Newcastle 15-2

The talent is there for the Racers to be at the top of the Class. But they've slipped up twice in district play and will have to run down their opposition to earn a Regional host. It starts Friday when they host current district leaders Del City. They lost a nail biter at DC in December. Then on February 10th, they travel to upstart Classen SAS. The status of senior [player_tooltip player_id='2223702' first='Ivan' last='Antwi-Donkor'] likely represent the key to Newcastle's ceiling. As the senior earlier this month appeared to be rounding into form after recovery from injuries. A healthy Antwi-Donkor has the potential to take over the playoffs.

6. Classen SAS 14-2

The Comets make it rain on opposition with the outstanding shooting of juniors [player_tooltip player_id='2137791' first='Josiah' last='Morales'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2854298' first='Daylan' last='Williamson']. Add in fellow junior [player_tooltip player_id='2140782' first='Pierson' last='Vanlandingham'] manning the middle and SAS is built to win now. They proved them when they took down Newcastle with a 62-58 win. Potentially setting them up for a regional hosting spot. A non district test with 4A contenders Douglass on February 3rd starts off a season defining three game stretch with Del City and Newcastle to follow. Win both of those, and the Comets might just be District champs.

5. Del City 12-5

The Eagles showed their ceiling during a December stretch where they beat Newcastle, smacked district rivals Midwest City and beat 6A contenders Norman. Since then, they have been a bit up and down during in season tournaments. Back to back 20+ district wins point toward Del City having found their mojo. Which they will need on Friday when they travel west to play Newcastle.

4. East Central 14-5

A volatile team, but with a State Championship level ceiling. They lost a tough one to Tulsa Memorial last week, but still control their destiny when it comes to playoff seeding. The wave of guard play with tough shot making makes them a threat every night. Especially with the way senior [player_tooltip player_id='1552318' first='Rickey' last='Bruner III'] is shooting the ball. Junior DeAndre Rhodes Jr provides rebounding and interior and scoring. While also being a streaky shooter.

3. Carl Albert 13-2

The Titans have started to find their stride as they've knocked the rust off their football players. Junior duo [player_tooltip player_id='2499150' first='Delijah' last='Matthews'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2499145' first='Austin' last='Johnson'] were especially impressive when they won the Lincoln Christian tournament title. Add in sharpshooters senior Brandon Rogers and freshman [player_tooltip player_id='2441152' first='Gibson' last='Johnson'], and they have plently of offensive fire power to challenge anyone in 5A.

2.Tulsa Memorial 16-2

Tulsa Memorial took some bumps at the Tournament of Champions. But since then have righted the ship and earned tough district victories over McAlester and East Central. They have an exciting mix of prideful and tough seniors, and flourishing sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='2527381' first='Jarius' last='Bossell']. The Chargers travel south the McAlester on Friday, hoping to extend their advantage in the district title race.

1. Booker T Washington 14-1

The dream of a perfect season ended with a loss to 3A powerhouse Millwood. But Booker T Washington are still the favorites to repeat in Class 5A. Seniors [player_tooltip player_id='2277651' first='Mason' last='Matulis'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1783190' first='Isaac' last='Sanders'] are starting to have that the senior urgency and play that defines title runs. Both are two of the top available seniors in Oklahoma. With Matluis now being a 6 foot 5 tall, do it all guard with big time bounce to go along with his shooter. Sanders is a tough combo guard, with equal dead eye shooting ability.
