Devin is a strong guard prospect who never looked sped up with the ball in his hands. He was able to just make one move on his drives to the basket, maintaining control on tough finishes in the lane, converting on contested layups with either hand. The 6’2” sophomore can stretch the floor, as he was making the defense pay from the perimeter if he was left with any space. VanderMeer was key in his team going 3-1 in Pool A this weekend in Denver.

VanderMeer rose in the rankings by his ability to impact the game in multiple ways while continuing to expand his offensive attack. Averaging 10.7 points and 3.5 assists, he showed he can both score and facilitate, giving his team a steady presence in the backcourt. His three point shooting is a true weapon and he can heat up quickly and completely shift momentum in a matter of possessions. What’s elevated his game even more is his increased aggression off the dribble. Using quickness and a polished hesitation, he consistently gets defenders off balance and into the lane. That added dimension makes him far more difficult to guard. As he continues to blend scoring with playmaking, VanderMeer is clearly trending upward

VanderMeer is a player who we got to see this season as he was one of the most important pieces on an entertaining team that went on a run, but what we saw this weekend for 7070 Athletics was different. He was one of the top 2028s on the entire weekend in my opinion, and that was encapsulated in their win against a very talented DNA Blue squad, in which he dominated. VanderMeer fills it up and couldn’t be contained. He was scoring at will, shooting the 3-ball, and attacking the mismatch. VanderMeer led his team to an undefeated record against some of the top guards in the state and proved that he not only belonged but he’s put up a stock rising year and is ready to rise. Big summer is upcoming for him. 

Devin VanderMeer Devin VanderMeer 6'2" | CG Lewis-Palmer | 2028 State CO centers his game around being unselfish, constantly seeking out open teammates to solidify opportunities. Averaging 3.4 APG, 10.6 PPG, and 1.3 SPG, VanderMeer gels well with Lewis-Palmer’s dynamic 2-way system. The 6’2 all-around guard finds innovative ways to score off the dribble, knocking down difficult looks from the mid-range and three-point areas. VanderMeer’s unpredictability makes him a tough assignment for opposing defenders to keep up with. Look out for VanderMeer to be a crucial piece of the puzzle if Lewis-Palmer takes down Pueblo South.

VanderMeer has been a key contributor for Lewis-Palmer, averaging 10.6 points, 3.2 assists and 3 rebounds per game. An excellent ball handler, he controls the offense and sets up teammates with poise and precision. VanderMeer’s biggest weapon is his deep shooting and when he’s on from beyond the arc, he can quickly change the momentum of a game. His ability to create his own shot and hit timely threes makes him a crucial piece for Lewis-Palmer’s success in the playoffs

At 6’2, VanderMeer has a lengthy frame that allows him to intercept passes and wreak havoc when defending on-ball. Aside from his stifling defense, VanderMeer heats up quickly with the ball and gets to his shot speedily and effectively.

7070Athletics was one of the better 15U grassroots teams in the state this summer, and a big reason for that was because of Devin who happened to be their mist consistent player. He’s a two-way standout who scores in bunches despite the attention being on him but also is a willing passer that makes the right play. He’s a pest defensively that they put on the opposing team’s best player, and we saw that this summer when he got out to our showcase as well. Devin plays hard and with a chip on his shoulder. He’ll start in his sophomore season and look to lead a young bunch that I feel will have a better season. He jumps onto our rankings after a stellar summer as one of the top players in the class and has a chance to rise even more. 

VanderMeer showed that he can space the floor with his shooting. He confidently knocked down the three-ball and made sure that players knew where he was. He moved well without the ball, found open windows in the defense and created scoring opportunities for teammates. His off-ball activity and IQ kept the defense trying to run him off of the 3 point line and created scoring opportunities for others. He’s a player who knows how to play the right way and that was on display.

Devin wasted no time finding his rhythm, getting to his spots early and making defenders pay. He was consistent from deep while also showing the ability to attack the rim. His dual-threat scoring helped create spacing and momentum for his team.

Vandermeer continues to trend upward, and this weekend was his most complete showing yet. Already known for his scoring, he expanded his impact with impressive playmaking instincts and a high level feel for the game. His vision and decision making were evident every time he touched the ball. He set his big man up for alley oops, threaded passes through traffic and found the open shooters for the championship winning three. He ran the offense with poise and purpose, elevating his teammates and making the game easier for everyone around him. Vandermeer attacked defenders downhill with confidence, using tight handles and a shifty crossover to create space and finish strong. His ability to both facilitate and score made him a constant problem for defenses all weekend
