Expert Analysis

As expected, Austin drew plenty of defensive attention throughout the game, facing constant physicality and contact whenever he touched the ball. Despite that, he remained composed and continued to make an impact simply through his presence on the floor. His strongest stretch came in the second half, which he opened by knocking down back-to-back contested three-pointers. From there, he shifted into attack mode, repeatedly getting downhill. Even through heavy contact, Austin showed impressive body control, touch, and creativity, finding ways to maneuver around defenders and finish plays.

One of the best players in the state, Austin doesn’t get talked about enough. A strong forward who can get to the rim and finish with authority, Davie had a big scoring weekend on the 3SSB circuit. He’s also a good rebounder who plays with a big time motor.

One of the more consistent producers this weekend, Davie just flat out gets stuff done on the court. The power forward is excellent at working at the elbow area where he knocked down mid-range shots from the baseline and free-throw line areas of the court. In transition, Davie gets a head of steam and is tough to stop going downhill to the rim with his strength and coordination. Wildcat Select also ran a couple sets to let Davie operate with the ball in his hands, with a fake DHO action getting him a wide-open layup. Off defensive rebounds, Davie has the skill to bring the ball up the court and get into mid transition opportunities where he forces help from other defenders as Davie can beat other bigs down the court. One of the most productive players from Kentucky’s 2028 class, expect Division I programs to be checking out Davie throughout the rest of the summer.

If you asked what Austin does on the basketball floor, the best answer would be simple: everything. That’s exactly what he’s shown so far on the AAU circuit. He’s a major scoring threat who can also defend every position on the floor. Using his explosiveness and athleticism, Austin has found ways to score against any matchup thrown at him, whether it’s attacking the basket, knocking down mid-range jumpers or connecting from beyond the three-point line. One of his standout performances so far came in a team win where he finished with 19 points, six rebounds and three assists.

Perhaps the best scorer in the class, Austin had 2 different games where he scored 40+ points. He also did his scoring efficiently. Davie is capable of getting downhill and tearing the rim down or stepping out and knocking down perimeter jumpers. If you’re looking for a player who just gets things done,

Davie made an impact on the interior converting on a ton of chances around the rim. He was in good spots to rebound. Davie is effective running the floor in transition. His strength allows him to bully smaller opponents who attempt to guard him. He has some versatility with his game and can guard multiple positions. In the game I evaluated of his he provided some depth as a scorer.

Davie had perhaps the most impressive season of any Sophomore in Kentucky. Austin averaged 25 points per game and had a game where he scored 40 and another game where he scored 50 this year. Davie is not a great perimeter shooter (only 27% from three this year) but he makes up with it by how hard he plays on both ends. Austin’s best asset is his motor and should impress this summer with how hard he plays.

had a standout season, earning 10th Region Coaches Association Player of the Year honors, a spot on the All-10th Region First Team, and NKBBCA Division I All-Conference recognition. He led Campbell County to a 37th District championship, earning tournament MVP, and helped the team reach the 10th Region Tournament semifinals, also being named to the 10th Region All-Tournament team. Davie broke the school record for most points in a single game with 50 and surpassed 1,000 career points this season; his 50-point effort was the second-highest single-game total in NKY this year.

One of the most productive 2028 prospects in Kentucky, Davie was coming off a dominant 40 point and 16 rebound performance against Highlands in the best game of Davie’s high school career. It sounds weird to say Davie was held to 27 points and seven rebounds on Wednesday but it did feel like Holy Cross made Davie work for almost every bucket he scored. Just a dominant physical presence against northern Kentucky programs, Davie is too big and strong for most players and has the skill to attack off the dribble and go around slower footed bigs. I love how Davie uses his left hand at the rim, being confident as a finisher with either hand. Davie only made two shots outside of 3 feet in this game, something he’ll have to do more consistently on the 3SSB circuit this spring and summer when every team will have forwards who can physically compete with him. What I don’t expect to change is Davie’s ability to live at the free throw line, his aggressive nature of play puts a lot of pressure on the defense in the paint and Davie shot 11 free throws on Wednesday night in a tough road loss Vs a senior laden squad.
