Expert Analysis
Jaylen Fuller | Prep Hoops Scout
Breylon Webb is a wing playing for Western Reserve Academy. He’s under the radar despite being a D1 commit due to the talent he plays with. He has underrated self creation despite being seen more as an offball threat and is tremendous at attacking closeouts with little to no dribbling. He has a quick second jump allowing him to often put back his own misses. The 3 star wing had 17 points while shooting 6-9 from the field and 2-3 from three. A real eye opener that should be highlighted is in this game he had 5 rebounds with 4 of these being offensive boards.

Western Reserve Academy used a big second half performance to get a home victory over Winston Salem Prep and Webb was productive as a forward who can play above the rim, crash the offensive glass, cut and run in transition. Webb’s length also allows him to make impact plays defensively and he’s continued to do the things that made him intriguing when I watched him with Beauchamp Elite back in July. Will be curious to see how La Salle fits his role at the college level to try and get him on the court early in his college career.

The smooth shooting La Salle commit was a constant threat to score from behind the arc. He shoots a clean ball and if his feet are set he is probably cashing in. Webb’s size is very imposing on the perimeter. His length allows him to cover ground with ease. Webb finished with four threes and had a total of 16 points.

A post grad prospect out of the Seattle area, Webb catches your eye with how fluidly he moves his feet for his size. Having the athleticism to play at the highest levels, Webb makes some impressive plays with the ball in his hands. I’m most interested to see how Webb handles physicality, when watching him in the summer for Beauchamp Elite it seemed like a primary reason why he’s taking a post grad year to get stronger and be more ready from day one when he steps on a college campus.

Fantastic prospect who continues to elevate his offensive skill set. Looked pretty efficient from 3-point and was able to sink those in bursts, but was also incredibly difficult to stop from getting downhill. Uses his length with his dribble to push the ball in front, pull it back, and was just too long and strong for most defenders when he found a crease.

A new name to Ohio, Webb is doing a post grad year with Western Reserve Academy, a program that has become known for producing Division I talent. Webb looks next in line as few players move as smoothly as he does up and down the court at his size. His signature play of the day came when he grabbed a rebound, split the defense at half court and had a tough finish at the rim. I also thought Webb showed good feel for the game, being comfortable making the extra pass for his teammate. While Webb scored 8 points, his team high 4 assists caught my eye even more on Wednesday. I want to see Webb make a real impact on the defensive end of the court during my next scouts of him, he has the physical tools to be an impact player on that end of the court with the right mindset.

Webb has been a much more prevalent downhill threat this season, using an improved handle and his long wingspan to slip past defenders and get to the rim. He’s also shown some great anticipation of that help defender stepping up and has been really effective moving laterally past the help, getting to two feet, and finishing strong. He’s been a consistent scorer for the Irish this season as well as an effective rim defender.

Webb was almost unstoppable with his downhill game this weekend, beating his man consistently with a quick, long first step, and then showing some great control and strength to ride defenders, get shoulder to shoulder and create contact or use his length to outmaneuver defenders at the rim. Even when he wasn’t able to directly beat his man to the rim, he played strong with gathers and power dribbles to bully defenders and get in good position to score. He had 23 points vs Timberline and 22 points vs Doherty.

Webb continues to raise his stock with his impressive play. In their game against Roosevelt, Webb was all over the paint blocking shots, even extending out to block some shots outside the paint. His length, athleticism, and aggression are really coming together defensively but he’s also shown great growth on the offensive end. Along with being able to knock down the outside shot, Webb has been vastly improved off the dribble and working to change direction on the go. He looks very composed attacking off the bounce and should continue to be one of the top players in the state this season.
