An example of what low to mid major programs want their forwards to look like, McCanna has taken a massive leap since I first watched him play at Western Reserve Academy and seems to be set to take off during his post grad year with the program. McCanna is physical, can clear out space in the paint to catch or provide room for guards to drive, is skilled enough to run DHO actions through him and sets strong screens in the pick and roll. A big man who will be ready to compete physically at the Division I level, I had multiple college coaches mention how they liked McCanna last weekend during the live period and were excited to continue to follow him throughout the summer.

. I thought McCanna showed improved hands and confidence once he caught the ball on the low block. Able to seal his defender and score a couple times on the block, McCanna can punish wings and guards who switch onto him or slimmer centers in the paint. With so many college programs looking for size and physicality in the paint, I expect McCanna to be a popular target during live period weekends for Division I schools.
Another Western Reserve Academy prospect to watch, McCanna comes from Colorado where he brings a strong frame that wants to play through you at both ends of the court. More physical than a lot of other bigs his age, McCanna is a force down low who will overpower you if you don’t push back on him. Still working on his offensive skills such as finishing and decision making with the basketball but McCanna already sets hard screens, rebounds and plays physically on both ends of the court. Excited to see McCanna the rest of the winter with Western Reserve Academy and during the grassroots season as well.
Moving from Colorado, McCanna has reclassified to the 2027 class after being a 2026 prospect for Evergreen High School. After scoring 13 points and grabbing 9 rebounds a game for his high school program, McCanna is looking to be challenged on a daily basis at practice with lots of size in the paint. Right now, McCanna is a tough cover for opposing bigs due to his size, strength and motor. Not afraid to get physical and throw his body around, skinnier bigs will have a very tough time dealing with McCanna in the paint. Division I target to watch in the 2027 class.
McCanna is as reliable as they come, especially when it comes to working down low in the paint. He’s not afraid to get physical, battling for buckets or boards with pure effort. Whether it’s finishing through contact or using either hand, McCanna stands his ground and gets the job done. He can also knock down a jumper and stretch the floor when needed with his deep range. What really stands out and makes him shine is his defensive footwork. He’s hard to move off the block, consistently holding his own and forcing opponents into tough, low percentage shots. If McCanna continues to work on his range watch out for this kid next season
McCanna brings value around the rim, quick to put up finishes at the rim versus pressure. Active with either hand around the basket. His height advantage creates plenty of opportunities versus contests, particularly with his improved footwork down low. Effective holding his own versus contact, he is solidifying himself as one of the more dependable paint options for this class. McCanna remains a capable spot-up shooter from the elbows or behind the arc, on low volume.
McCanna was a force on both ends for his team as he made his presence felt in the paint. On the defensive end he was able to crash the boards and limit second chance points. He was also able to alter shots, sending them away at times and making the opponent settle for outside shots. On the offensive end he was able to use his quickness to beat defenders to the spot and get some good looks. He was also able to use his strength and driver defenders to the block, finishing with some touch at the rim.
