Expert Analysis
Ari Rosenfeld | Prep Hoops Scout
Scarff has been on a tear as of late, steering South Park into states with some momentum as the third seed in District 7 3A. He picked up right where he left off in the Eagles’ first round romp over Perry Academy, pouring in 40 points while continuing to stake his claim as one of the best forwards in the state. An athletic two-way paint presence, he thrives working out of the dunker spot or running the floor ahead of opposing bigs for explosive finishes above the rim. He’s continued to grow as a floor spacer and ballhandler while playing with a consistent competitive edge that can’t help but rub off on his teammates. Scarff remains on the board as a strong option for D1 programs in need of frontcourt help, or could flourish quickly should he pursue options at the D2 or post-grad levels.

Easily one of the bigger sleepers in the state, Scarff flies under the radar at South Park but continues to make a splash throughout his senior year. Averaging just shy of 22 points per game, the athletic two-way forward has the Eagles off to a 12-2 start. He thrives around the rim on both ends where his size and athleticism combine with a nonstop motor to make him a highlight waiting to happen whether as a finisher or shot-blocker. He’s effective beating opposing bigs down the floor in transition while showing flashes of ball skills and perimeter shooting that suggest greater upside left to tap into. Scarff should be a target this spring for scholarship-level programs in need of frontcourt help and could also benefit from a post-grad year to further his development and get more exposure at the D1 level.

Scarff showed his ability to score the basketball in different ways. He showed that he can play above the rim and score through contact. He finished with 17 points. I really like how mobile and agile he is. Scraff also had a nice score from the block were he rose up over a defender to score bucket. I like how explosive he can be. He connected on two shots from behind the three point line. Scarff also spaced the floor on a few occasions. He had good timing going up to alter shots. I want to see him be more aggressive on the glass he should be dominating the boards and should be a walking double-double. He left few points on the board at the foul line. He would be a great fit as a postgrad for a prep team.

Among the more talented frontcourt prospects in the state, Scarff is coming off a summer that saw him playing his best basketball of his career on the EYBL Champions circuit. An athletic forward with a rugged two-way approach, he’s at his best while flying around the floor as a finisher, rebounder, and shot-blocker where he shows a strong blend of hands, timing, and vertical pop. Scarff thrives with his high motor in transition where he has a propensity for making momentum-changing plays as an emphatic dunker. Despite not being consistently challenged by opposing forwards on a nightly basis in the high school season, Scarff could be a worthy flyer for a D1 program looking for an infusion of toughness and athleticism up front.

The man in the middle for a well-oiled Final Red group that coasted to a 4-0 weekend in Memphis, Scarff was Mr. Reliable when it came to doing his job up front. Complementing a deep core of guards, the Western PA native was a regular recipient of lobs and dumpoffs in both the halfcourt and transition, showing his touch, leaping ability and body control while converting efficiently and athletically in traffic. Scarff is an instinctual rim protector who can move his feet with smaller players on the perimeter, regularly beating opposing bigs down the floor for early offense. His flashes of floor-spacing and faceup scoring are just gravy, with the energy and athleticism he brings being the trademarks that should attract regular scholarship-level attention in the coming months.

Scarff impressed with his athleticism on both ends of the floor. He showed that he could routinely contest or alter shots on the defensive end. Scraff does a good job of running the floor. He was able to score from the dunker spots. He also found ways to convert at the foul line. His length impacts passing lanes. He does a good job finding ways to stay relevant in the game. Scraff should see low division ones and high twos track him throughout the spring and summer.
