Ari Rosenfeld | Prep Hoops Scout
One of the more accomplished guards in the state the past two years, Sweeney nearly led Hershey to the state championship as a junior, falling in the title game before following that up with a 22-4 record as a senior while nearly leading District 3 in scoring. The well-rounded lead guard will now take his talents north to New England for a post-grad year in the ultra-competitive NEPSAC, heading MacDuffie (MA) as part of a strong group of PA and NJ prospects joining the Mustangs next fall. He’s a poised floor general who can thrive as a scorer or facilitator while making an impact in the floor game with his instincts and physicality. A younger senior who’s split time with football up until this point, he has clear D1 upside to tap into while shifting his focus fully to hoops for the first time over the next year.

A returning All-State selection after leading Hershey all the way to the state title game, Sweeney has his sights set on getting back there, starting with a run through districts as the second seed. The dynamic two-way guard has upped his scoring above 25 per game this year. He projects as a lead guard at the next level but plays up and down the lineup for the Trojans, using his strength, crisp athleticism, and natural instincts to make an impact all over the floor. Also the quarterback for the Hershey football team, there figures to be some hidden upside with Sweeney as he cleans up the low-hanging developmental fruit in his game with a year-round focus on hoops. Despite some D1 recruitment in tow already, Sweeney has elected for a post-grad year and will join the MacDuffie School (MA) next fall in the class of 2027.

After leading Hershey all the way to the state title game last year in front of the hometown crowd at Giant Center, Sweeney is back for more and ready to quarterback a talented Trojan rotation around him. Quite literally the starting QB for the Hershey football team, he brings natural leadership qualities and vision to the hardwood, pristinely working the ball around to his teammates in proper positions to thrive. A capable scorer in his own right, he’s a bowling ball working downhill while also showing capability as a pullup shooter out to the arc. Sweeney has rightfully garnered D1 attention already, but as a younger senior, he could really take off should he elect for a prep year while focusing full-time on basketball.

A 3-level scorer with a smooth mid-range game, Sweeney was the guy for Hershey en route to a District 3 5A championship and an appearance in the state final, falling to Neumann-Goretti in front of a home crowd. Cameron continued his dominance on the court, helping his Sideline Cancer squad reach the championship on the MADE Hoops Circuit. Expect another deep playoff run for Hershey, led by the dynamic combo guard.

Sweeney has been doing a lot of winning as of late, leading Hershey to a state championship berth in the winter and positioning Sideline Cancer this spring for a run at the 17U MHC title come July. It could be cliché to call Sweeney a quarterback on the court if not for the fact that he doubles as Hershey’s starting quarterback, carrying a fitting level of selflessness and leadership onto the hardwood. He gets downhill consistently with a blend of skill and physicality while consistently keeping his head up to make the appropriate read. Young for his grade, Sweeney could benefit from a post-grad year to transition his focus fulltime to hoops, but nonetheless is worthy of D1 attention before summer’s end.

After a breakout 2024-25 high school season, Sweeney has quickly become one for the most feared scoring guards on the spring circuit. Sweeney’s trifecta of speed, athleticism and scoring skills made him unstoppable in the open court. On half court possessions, Sweeney’s handles and quick burst enabled him to blow past the initial defender, weave through the help defense and get to the rack. In both these scenarios, Sweeney can execute a creative finish while hanging in the air or simply flush on opponent’s head. On Saturday, Sweeney was frequently double teamed. He was quick to recognize those doubles and then move the ball to open teammate for an easy bucket.

249 to 95…After an incredible regular season in which he posted 20 point per game and scored a season high 36 points (1 three) against Mechanicsburg, this extraordinarily athletic guard prospect took the 5A state tournament by storm. During Hershey’s march to the 5A state title game, Sweeney scored at every level as he averaged 20 points per contest. Sweeney is an electric open court threat who can push the rock for scores or assists. On half-court possessions, Sweeney’s quick burst and tight handles get him into the painted area for runners, floaters, and lay-ins. When defenders sag off, Sweeney will produce points via his highly accurate 3-point shot. We are expecting a monster spring / summer on the grassroots circuit from Sweeney.

Sweeney stuffed the stat sheet with his play. He did a great job of setting his teammates up for success on the offensive end with his ability to process the game on the fly. He made a living at the foul line and converted on a majority of his chances from there. He chipped in a team high 14 points. He uses his strength to bully his way to different spots on the floor. He scored a variety of tough shots out of the mid-range and mid-post areas respectively. Sweeney found ways to secure rebounds. He needs to become more consistent from three and showed some signs of being semi-reluctant. Sweeney needs to look to play more selfish on the offensive end and can get into a passive groove which can allow other teams to stay in the game. His alpha tendencies need to increase. He is tracking as a low division one guard.
