Wheeler is super intriguing because of his combination of size, skill, and shooting ability. The 6-foot-4 wing has a strong body for his size/age, and he moves better than you’d think—even though he isn’t super quick or athletic, he’s very coordinated and understands how to use his size in the paint. He made solid decisions against BABC’s aggressive press this weekend, and he hit a number of important threes early in the game to keep it close. Wheeler is nowhere near a finished product, so some added quickness and vertical pop could really take him to the next level. Regardless, he’s in a good position to thrive with Team Sims’ 16u squad this spring.

Wheeler is a super under-the-radar sophomore for MacDuffie, and I was surprised by how he handled an incredibly tough Winchendon opponent last weekend. The 6-foot-4 wing has good strength for his size and age, but I’m most impressed with his quick decision making and the fact that he already has an understanding of how to fill a role. He plays off the ball and shoots it whenever he’s open—he has a really nice release—but he can also attack closeouts and be creative in the lane if you overplay his shot. Wheeler has a super bright future ahead and is really going to benefit from his role this season.

Wheeler is only a rising sophomore, but he more than held his own at Holy Cross camp against a bunch of college-ready prospects from the D3-D1 level. The 6-foot-4 wing does an excellent job keeping his line on drives to the rim and has the toughness to take contact in the paint and still finish — I was really impressed with his downhill driving ability and strength, especially for his age. Wheeler needs to improve his three point shot, but he could totally get some scholarship looks once he does so. Bright future ahead for him, and I could see him making an impact for MacDuffie this season.

Wheeler, a versatile wing out of the MacDuffie School in Massachusetts, has a variety of ways to score the ball while also showing some skill as an on-ball creator. He’s comfortable putting the ball on the floor for multiple dribbles, and while he’s a high level perimeter shooter, does a nice job of using shot and pass fakes to open up driving lanes. He has a quick first step and uses his length to his advantage as a finisher around the rim. Defensively, he can guard up and down a position, uses his length to make plays in passing lanes, and shows a willingness to mix it up on the glass.
