Thompson made the decision to transfer from Ballard and enroll at Eastern for his Sophomore season. With fellow Sophomore Tre Mack Tre Mack 5'11" | PG Eastern | 2029 State KY manning the point guard position, look for Kam to play off the ball as well as being the backup point for the Eagles. Thompson is a skilled guard who should have ample opportunity to contribute as a Sophomore.

In similar fashion to Aaron Huffman Aaron Huffman 6'8" | C Marion C. Moore | 2029 State KY , Kam will also depart Bates Fundamentals of the Nike EYBL circuit for Wildcat Select of Adidas’ 3SSB platform. He’ll join fellow top 2029 guards CJ Sweeney CJ Sweeney 6'0" | PG Marion C. Moore | 2029 State KY and Jeremiah Queen Jeremiah Queen 6'2" | SG/PG Louisville Trinity | 2029 State KY in hopes of bringing some hardware back to Louisville. Wildcat Select 15U is spearheaded by the basketball mind of former Louisville Cardinal and Shawnee boys’ basketball head coach, Ellis Myles.

Of all the high school athletes competing in the Louisville Dirt Bowl, Kam’s contributions have opened the most eyes so far. His tenacious defensive presence and crafty playmaking have played a significant role in the GP Thunder’s 3-0 record. He scored 10pts in their most recent game and went on to earn the player of the game nod and a player of the week nomination. After seeing little varsity action at Ballard last season and now running with Seneca for summer league play, Kam could be one of the most significant transfer portal pickups if he decides to make a move.

Kam picked up 94-feet in Bates Fundamentals 15U’s final matchup of the weekend. He seemed to have an endless of amount of energy to support his defensive play and his effort led to a lot of positivity down the stretch. I counted at least 4 steals on top of several deflections that all resulted from Kam’s relentless ball pressure and quick instincts. He paired his defensive masterclass with solid output at the point guard spot – generating offense through high-level facilitation, court vision, and ball-handling skills.

Thompson, like Marcum, is a high IQ point guard whose best basketball is all ahead of him. Kamden is capable of scoring or facilitating when he’s got the ball in his hands. He will need to continue getting stronger and improve his lateral quickness but Thompson could go from relative anonymity this season to being a top guard in Louisville as a Sophomore.

Thompson is a name that has been heard on the AAU circuit in recent seasons but no one on our staff has been able to get eyes on him yet. Likely a top 40 or better prospect in the class once we are able to properly rank him, Kam is expected to contribute some meaningful minutes at the varsity level for a very young Ballard squad this season.
