Class 4A: Stars to Watch (Part 2)

A quick, athletic guard who thrives by playing downhill and using his combination of ball-handling, a quick first step, and ability to stop on a dime and elevate into his shot, Washpun is a dynamic scorer and playmaker. He averaged 19.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game last season for the Lightning and could be among the leading scorers in the class as a junior.     Another cat-quick guard with elite handles, Fields is a big-time scorer who is coming off a freshman year in which he averaged 17.6 points per game. He can knock down shots from anywhere inside half-court, but despite his small stature, he's at his best when he's playing downhill and attacking the rim.     Jackson has reportedly transferred to play his sophomore year at Kennedy, where he'll give the Cougars a superb athlete on the wing who can do everything on the floor at a high level. He averaged 14.3 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game as a freshman at Washington.     King is another big-time wing scorer who averaged 17.3 points per game to go with 7.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 2.0 steals. He's a smooth all-around offensive weapon who can play with or without the ball in his hands, knocking down shots in bunches off the dribble or the catch. He does a nice job letting the game come to him and not forcing anything, getting his shots within the flow of the offense.     Berns was great as a junior at Waterloo West, averaging 16.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. He has transferred to play his senior year at Cedar Falls, where he'll give the Tigers a reliable ball-handler with good size in the backcourt who can score from anywhere on the floor, but who is also adept at creating shots for his teammates.     Rus is a highly-regarded wing scorer who took a bit of time to get acclimated to his new teammates at North Scott last season, but he came on strong down the stretch for the Lancers, flashing his high-level scoring ability. Blessed with good size and length, he can shoot it at a high clip from the 3-point line, knocking down over 45% of his 3s last season, and he'll pair with [player_tooltip player_id='2309944' first='Josiah' last='Harrington'] to give North Scott a dynamic one-two punch of big wing scorers.     One of three Yusuf brothers at East, Fami is the youngest of the three, heading into his junior year. He's a hyper-athletic wing who can play above the rim in transition, and he provides some versatility on the defensive end of the floor with his length and explosive athleticism. He averaged 11.3 points per game as a sophomore and should take another leap as a junior.     Steinbeck played his freshman year at Blair (NE) before transferring across the river to play his sophomore year at Council Bluffs Lincoln. He has good size and length on the wing, is a knockdown shooter off the catch, and has the size and athleticism to be a versatile defender. He'll make an immediate impact with the Lynx.     Craig was really productive as a freshman, starting for a state qualifying Warriors team all year and averaging 7.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game. He has great size and length on the wing, allowing him to contest shots against bigger players, and he can move his feet as a perimeter defender. On a team loaded with other offensive talent, he wasn't asked to do a ton as a freshman on that end of the floor, but he's capable of knocking down shots from distance or creating plays off the bounce.     Kooken played sparingly as a freshman for the Wolves, averaging 2.8 points per game on 60-44 shooting splits. He followed that up with a massive summer with [program_tooltip program_id='2270834' first='Iowa' last='United'], picking up early offers from Oregon and Arizona State. He's a fantastic shooter and playmaker off the dribble who is oozing with confidence, and he should step into a much larger role this winter on a ridiculously talented Northwest roster.
