Expert Analysis
Tony Roe | Prep Hoops Scout
Shabazz, formerly of Davenport Assumption, is playing his high school ball at United Prep in the Des Moines area now, landing him in this article. An athletic, slashing guard who can play with or without the ball in his hands, his ability to create plays off the dribble is rivaled by few players in the 2026 class within the state. He’ll play his college ball at Murray State.

reopened his recruitment following the change in the Hawkeyes’ coaching staff this spring. A combo guard that has a strong handle, sees the floor well as the primary ball-handler thanks to his 6’4″ frame and can shoot from the outside, Shabazz will likely find a home sooner rather than later. After making the transition to
Iowa United
Prep and playing on the grassroots circuit this summer, Shabazz has continued to fine-tune his game and continues to grow in all facets of the sport.
Looking like more of a mid-major prospect at this point, Shabazz picked up an offer from Fran McCaffery and Penn once Iowa’s former head man took the position in Philadelphia, and he also holds offers from Buffalo, Murray State, Purdue-Fort Wayne and others.

was one of the best guards I saw play at 3SSB. His ball handling was the definition of crafty and allowed him to leave defenders way out of his position with his pace and tight handle. Navon has an endless array of moves that he can go to that leave defenders in the dust and get him to the rim, where he thrives as a finisher and foul drawer. Navon also showed the ability to pull up off the dribble heavily contested and still cash out at a high rate. Navon is a three-level scorer who leverages his scoring threat to find his teammates for great looks. His passing is immaculate; he is super decisive, smart, and unselfish, always kicking ahead to his teammates for the best shot possible. Navon is equally skilled as a defender. He moves like a corner back out there, baiting opponents to throw his direction, where he intercepts their passes. He is also great as an on-ball defender as well with his strong frame and quick hands. Overall,

The former Iowa commit is continuing to evolve, both as a shooter and at attacking the rim this summer. Shabazz’s height should translate well to the next level, and he’ll have the opportunity to play either guard position, but thrives with the ball in his hands, orchestrating the offense.
Shabazz is a quick guard that can get to the hoop, and if left open, can knock down from behind the arc. He’ll likely best served as an off-the-bench guard that brings energy and forces defenses to collapse. His vision makes him a good passer, and Shabazz’s length and desire to win make him a good defender.

Formerly of Assumption, Shabazz has transferred to play his junior year a the newly established United Prep, based out of Des Moines, moving him into this article. A hyper athletic combo guard who can play with or without the ball in his hands, he’ll play his college ball at Iowa after committing to play for Fran McCaffery, where he’ll fit into the Hawkeyes’ up-tempo system perfectly. He’s a skilled downhill guard and three-level scorer who came up clutch for the Knights, knocking down a game-winning free-throw late in the 3A state title game in March. He averaged 14.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.4 steals a game as a sophomore and will now play alongside and against some of the most talented players in the country on the Grind Session.

A little bonus addition to the list. 6’4” Iowa prospect on Meanstreets ‘ last=”]. Really caught my eye with his athleticism and scoring capabilities. Can hit shots from all three levels. Quick burst to the hoop for some strong finishes in the opening stages of their first game. Fastbreak slam in the 2nd half. Also like his ability to work with the jab step. In the final minute, he had a tough and-one at the rim to tie the game up. Another last-second three kept them in it despite the loss. Holds 3 HM offers. #1 player in Iowa.
