About Parker
Expert Analysis
Tony Roe | Prep Hoops Scout
Berns has been a really nice addition to the Tigers lineup, giving them a reliable playmaker, ball-handler, and tough defender on the perimeter. A lead guard with good size at 6-2, he sees the floor really well and has fit perfectly with a Cedar Falls team that moves the ball exceptionally well. He plays the game the right way. He had 10 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, and 4 steals.

One of my favorite guards in Class 5A on a new team,

remains all the things that he showed at the Prep Hoops Expo this fall.
A never too high, never too low guard that plays with consistent effort, good defense, solid ball-handling, the ability to score from the perimeter and at the rim, and just another threat on a team full of them for Cedar Falls, the addition for Berns could be the difference between contending with the Des Moines schools for a state championship and winning one.
It’s still early in the season and Berns is continuing to feel out what his role is with his new team after transferring from Waterloo West, but the fit doesn’t feel clunky or forced at all.

was the best all-around player in Des Moines over the weekend. As I stated in placing Berns on my First-Team All-Expo, he is”A lead guard that can handle the rock, shoot and make open or contested threes with regularity, distribute the ball to rack up assists, get downhill and attack the basket and so much more.
With body control and poise to make shots at all three levels, contort his body to score at the rim, find shooters on the perimeter and do all the little things — fight for rebounds, run back in transition defense and block a shot, poke steals away — Berns is a dream starting point guard for almost any team in the state.”

was the most consistent, best player in virtually all facets of the game on Saturday. A lead guard that can handle the rock, shoot and make open or contested threes with regularity, distribute the ball to rack up assists, get downhill and attack the basket and so much more, Berns was the best player in Des Moines.

Lucky for Cedar Falls, though the Tigers lose some talent from last year’s senior class, it will be plug and play for the Waterloo West transplant into the backcourt for one of the powerhouse programs in the state.

A strong lead guard with size, physicality, and great instincts, Berns was hyper productive as a junior at Waterloo West, leading the Wahawks in scoring at 16.3 points to go with 5.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. He plays with pace and is really good in ball screen action. I’m looking forward to seeing how he commands the floor on both ends of the floor as arguably the most experienced player in the gym on Saturday.

Berns was great as a junior at Waterloo West, averaging 16.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. He has transferred to play his senior year at Cedar Falls, where he’ll give the Tigers a reliable ball-handler with good size in the backcourt who can score from anywhere on the floor, but who is also adept at creating shots for his teammates.
