was absolutely elite as a scorer and shot creator throughout this tournament. His combination of size and skill is one of the best in Iowa. Jaidyn showed himself to be virtually unguardable one-on-one. His elite ball-handling, shooting, use of his body, and athleticism made him a matchup nightmare throughout this tournament. His dribble combos had defenders stumbling constantly. And he has no issue pulling up and cashing out from any distance with the smallest bit of space. His jumper is super fast and compact, and he can get his shot off in a phone book. Even with heavy contests, Jaidyn is extremely efficient, both in the midrange and from beyond the arc. His interior scoring and driving were elite in this tournament. Jaidyn is great at using his body to carve out space for tough layups. And his touch converts to these shots as well. He can get to the rim with ease using his burst, and off-balance and contested layups are shots he makes with no issues. His playmaking was great as well. He created many open shots with his scoring threat, and he made quick reads and passed with great accuracy. Rebounding was another area where he was very impressive. He brought down heaps of boards with his elite vertical and hustle. Jaidyn did about everything he could for Storm Lake through their state tournament run.

Given the stakes of the game, this is without a doubt the best game I’ve ever seen

play (and he’s played some great ones). The future Creighton wing played his heart out before fouling out early in the second overtime. He was aggressive on the glass, pulling down 18 rebounds, and he was dominant around the rim, routinely powering through contact for finishes. He didn’t settle for jumpers, instead taking them within the flow of the offense when they were appropriate. A player with the combination of size, length, athleticism, and raw talent that Coon possesses rarely ever passes through Iowa, and I’m so happy that I got a chance to watch him play. He’s a great kid, a phenomenal competitor, and a great ambassador for his community. Good luck at Creighton, Jaidyn. It’s been a pleasure.

The Creighton signee has a blend of size, length, athleticism, and talent that is rarely seen in Iowa. He’s an eye-popping athlete who provides highlight reel plays on a nightly basis, finishing above the rim with flair, grace, and power. He has been dealing with an injury over the last month of the season but appears to be back and healthy for the Tornadoes, and if he is, they have as good a chance as anyone to win the title in 3A. Coon is averaging 21.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.8 steals per game on 54% shooting, and he’ll be the main attraction of the week.
