Boyd has had a sensational senior season, and he capped it with a fantastic performance in the Tornadoes’ substate final loss. Like Lorensen, he really knows how to get to the spots he wants to get to, especially in the mid-range. He’s nearly automatic from 15 feet and in, especially when he’s shooting it off the bounce. He elevates into his jumper so quickly that it seems to catch defenders off guard, and he’s able to shoot it uncontested. He knocked down big shot after big shot throughout the game. It sure looks like Briar Cliff is getting a steal with Boyd. He had 18 points on 8-13 shooting, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals in the loss.

The unsung hero of Storm Lake’s season, Cameron Boyd Cameron Boyd 6'2" | PG Storm Lake | 2026 State IA showed up yet again in the quarterfinals for the Tornadoes. The second-leading scorer behind Jaidyn Coon Jaidyn Coon 6'7" | SF Storm Lake | 2026 State #154 Nation IA , Boyd stepped up in a big way with the Creighton sidelined for a portion of the game with foul trouble. With Coon having trouble getting going in regulation, Boyd showed out, making a multitude of difficult shots. Step-back three-pointers, floaters in the lain, finishing over the defense within a few feet of the bucket. Boyd, a Briar Cliff signee, looked like the best player on the court at times with the way he scored on Monday. Looking like the epitome of “That boy nice,” with some of the shots he made, the Chargers hit a home run by getting the Storm Lake senior.

Boyd has stepped up and been an elite second scoring threat alongside Coon, thriving on the open looks that Coon’s gravity helps create. He’s a high-level shooter, burying nearly 45% of his 3-point attempts, and he has really improved as a shot creator of his own off the dribble. He’s averaging 20.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 2.2 steals per game.

Cameron Boyd Cameron Boyd 6'2" | PG Storm Lake | 2026 State IA lit it up from downtown in this game. He was very efficient on three-point attempts. His shot mechanics are super impressive. He displayed a fast and fluid release that proved extremely difficult to contest. He hit multiple threes off of dribble handoffs, which did not offer him much space, but it never seemed to matter as he was able to get his shot off in a phone booth. He hit another three when a defender went under a screen, showing his pull-up shooting ability, as none of the threes he hit in this game were off the catch and he was still very efficient on these looks. He was great at scoring in the midrange as well. Again, these buckets came off the dribble and he was often contested and off balance. His shooting ability allowed him to get downhill consistently, where he was great at making reads while driving downhill, showcasing his playmaking skills. He was elite on the defensive end also. He was a pest as a defender and got many steals with his quick hands and defensive instinct.

A confident shooter with a lightning quick release off the catch, Boyd knocked down four 3-pointers in the loss, finishing with 16 points for the Tornadoes. He moves really well without the ball in his hands, finding open spaces in the defense to get his shot off, and he also showed that he can be a reliable playmaker and shot creator for his teammates when he’s in control of the ball.
