First Team

Junior of the Year: Redek Born Redek Born 6'3" | PG Norwalk | 2024 State IA (Norwalk)
Stats: 18.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.5 steals, 50.5 FG%, 40.4 3P%, 84.4 FT%

Born had a fantastic junior year, helping lead the Warriors to the 4A state tournament and controlling games on both ends of the floor with his high IQ and understanding of the game, as well as his remarkable talent. He’s an efficient scorer who can invert the offense and initiate from the block, taking smaller defenders down there and scoring or facilitating. In a class filled with good candidates for POY honors, we’ll side with Born, who had the most team success of any of these first team players.

Stats: 19.9 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.1 steals, 1.6 blocks, 45.1 FG%, 33.9 3P%, 72.1 FT%

The top-ranked player in the state’s 2024 class, Wilkins had a big year as a three-level scorer for the Bulldogs. At 6-6/6-7, he can create his own shot against just about anyone, and he has improved as an all-around offensive weapon in the last year, becoming a reliable ball-handler and playmaker.

Stats: 16.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.5 steals, 47.3 FG%, 32.2 3P%, 78.9 FT%

Winkel was one of the most improved players in the state this year, a dynamic scoring guard who can get to the rim at will as well as create plays for his teammates. He had some huge scoring nights for the Jaguars and is primed to have a big summer.

Owen Larson Owen Larson 6'1" | PG Estherville Lincoln Central | 2024 State IA (Estherville Lincoln Central)
Stats: 27.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.6 steals, 44.9 FG%, 31.1 3P%, 73.5 FT%

The future South Dakota State guard was asked to do everything for the Midgets, and he delivered in a big way averaging over 27 points a game while also getting his teammates involved at a high clip. He’s a smart guard who can get to the rim at will, knock down 3s off the dribble, and he provided a ton of value as a rebounder as a junior as well.

Stats: 23.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.2 steals, 49.1 FG%, 35.8 3P%, 74.8 FT%

Ries has committed to play football at Iowa after next season, and when you watch him on the hardwood it’s easy to see why he’s a coveted football prospect. He’s an eye-popping athlete with tremendous strength and he uses that athleticism and physicality to control games on both ends of the floor. He scores in bunches, rebounds at a high level, and can defend multiple positions.

Second Team

Jack Miller Jack Miller 6'1" | PG Jesup | 2024 State IA (Jesup)
Stats: 26.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals, 50.8 FG%, 37.6 3P%, 81.2 FT%

Miller is a big-time scorer who creates shots for himself just about as well as any player in the state. He’s a skilled ball handler who pairs those handles with great footwork to help create space to get his shot off. He has a potent mid-range game, a ton of range, and sees the floor really well.

Matthew Noll Matthew Noll 6'7" | PF Bishop Heelan | 2024 State IA (Heelan)
Stats: 18.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 49.8 FG%, 77.6 FT%

A 6-7 wing who has really improved as a playmaker over the last 12 months, Noll had a tremendous junior year for the Crusaders, leading them to the 3A semifinals and dominating games as a scorer, rebounder, and playmaker throughout that run. He’s a skilled offensive weapon who can shoot it from deep at a much higher clip than he showed during the high school season. He’s primed to have a huge summer with Martin Brothers.

Stats: 21.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 6.3 assists, 1.4 steals, 44.4 FG%, 31.2 3P%, 78.9 FT%

Cavil is an extremely talented guard as both a scorer and a facilitator, leading the Railsplitters in scoring and ranking third in 4A in assists per game. He’s a great ball handler who sees the floor at a high level.

Camden Davis Camden Davis 6'2" | SF Hudson | 2024 State IA (Hudson)
Stats: 19.7 points, 10.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.3 steals, 54.9 FG%, 77.9 FT%

A do-it-all wing who nearly led the Pirates to the 2A state tournament, Davis led the team in scoring and rebounding and has emerged as a reliable three-level scorer who uses his physical frame and athleticism to control the game on both ends of the floor.

Derek Weisskopf Derek Weisskopf 6'3" | SG Williamsburg | 2024 State IA (Williamsburg)
Stats: 19.2 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.0 steals, 51.6 FG%, 71.3 FT%

Weisskopf is one of the best athletes in the 2024 class. He has committed to play football at Iowa but is also a dominant two-way player on the hardwood. At 6-5, he has good size on the wing, and he uses his length and athleticism to dominate games as a scorer, playmaker, and defender.
