Arnaman carried a lot of the load Friday night in Iowa City but the Bears wouldn’t have been able to spring the upset without the key contributions from his trusty sidekick, Trepanier. The senior forward tossed in 14 points, none bigger than a three-pointer that sparked a decisive 9-0 run down the stretch. Trepanier maximizes his natural gifts on the court because he owns a high basketball IQ. He understands when he has an advantage and cashes in during those instances. He can bang inside with strength that makes him a college football prospect, but shows the agility and skills to do damage on the perimeter. He’s a matchup nightmare.

At first glance, Trepanier looks more like a football player than a basketball standout, but the 6-0 forward has been extremely productive for West Branch over the last few years, and that continued with great play against Solon on Saturday afternoon, scoring 22 points on 9-14 shooting (2-4 3P) to go with 11 rebounds and 2 steals. He’s listed at just 6-0, but he plays several inches bigger than that with his physicality and effort levels, relentlessly pursuing the ball when rebounding, rotating well on the defensive end, and positioning himself on that end of the floor. He also showcased a lightning-quick release off the catch from deep and a lot of confidence in his jumper.

Trepanier is a mullet-wearing, junk-yard dog in the post. He’s an old-school power forward with strong ball handling and passing skills. He’s effective around the rim, finishing plays and pulling down boards. He moves well and shows good footwork defensively.
