Expert Analysis
Tony Roe | Prep Hoops Scout
Cascade actually did a really good job defensively on Ries in the first half of their game last week, holding him to just 4 points on 2-6 shooting, but you can only hold someone as athletically and physically gifted as Ries down for so long, and he erupted in the second half en route to 20 points on 9-14 shooting and 10 rebounds. An explosive athlete with great footwork, soft touch, and the ability to power through contact at the bucket for finishes. He’s a good playmaker because of the gravity he has, pulling defenders towards him and finding open shooters.

An explosive athlete who uses his athleticism and physicality to dominate games on the offensive end, Ries can score from all three levels, and once he gets a head of steam going, he’s nearly impossible to slow down as he bullies his way to the bucket. He’ll play linebacker at Iowa instead of playing college basketball, but he’ll be looking to lead the Panthers back to the state tournament for a fifth straight season. He averaged 23.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists a game on 49-36-75 splits.

Ries is headed to Iowa to play linebacker, but he’s still a dominant force on the hardwood as well, coming off a junior year in which he averaged 23.1 points and 10.2 rebounds on 49-36-75 shooting splits. He’s an explosive athlete who skies above the rest of the players on the floor to pull down rebounds, and when he gets a head of steam going towards the rim, good luck trying to slow him down. He finishes through contact with ease, and has improved as a perimeter shooting threat, adding a fairly consistent jumper to his arsenal.
