Ari Rosenfeld | Prep Hoops Scout
Splitting time between Phelps’ national and PJAA teams last year, Yue quietly established himself as one of the most skilled and productive young big men in the region. Back from a summer back home in his native China, he stuck out immediately upon first viewing on Saturday with the sheer fact that he’s dropped at least 20 pounds from his frame since we saw him last. With his newfound svelteness, Yue was effective at camp while showcasing increased quickness and fluidity off the dribble to go along with his versatile, high-volume perimeter shooting. There remain questions about his long-term defensive fit at the highest levels but Yue’s natural gifts on the offensive end should make him a coveted recruit nonethteless in the not-too-distant future.

Splitting time between Phelps’ national and PJAA teams in his first year in the region, Yue showed steady flashes of the expansive inside-out offensive skillset that figures to make him a popular name among college coaches in years to come. A native of China, he displays a natural feel and dexterity with the ball in his hands that’s hard to find in a prospect his age, let alone one his size. Yue is most effective at the high school level as a dynamic floor-spacer with a highly versatile 3-point stroke, but he also shows enticing ability to put the ball on the deck, score out of the post, and make plays for teammates as a passer. It will take time to iron out his defensive shortcomings, but Yue looks ready to step into a marquee role as soon as next year with a potential recruiting boost to follow.

New to the area this year after transferring down from St. Thomas More (CT), Yue showed some brilliant flashes over the course of his repeat-freshman year. A native of China still adjusting to the speed of the American game, he’s most comfortable as a prolific floor-spacer in the frontcourt, with the ability to hoist and convert on 3’s off a wide variety of actions. Yue also shows an ability to create his own shot, whether in the post or facing up off the dribble, where he’s also a threat to make plays for teammates. There will be questions about his athleticism and defensive fit at the next level, but Yue figures to at least draw intrigue up to the high-major level in coming years with his size and offensive prowess.

Yue (native of China) is making a big impression during the first month of the freshman season. He is a high IQ stretch-4 / 5 prospect with a well-rounded skill set. Yue is extremely comfortable operating on the perimeter, especially in DHO action or as a distributor. He can also knock home jumpers from all over the floor, including from deep. His length and solid frame enable Yue to score in the lane at will via post ups or the offensive glass. Two nights ago, Yue scored 23 points (5 threes) in Phelps’ win over College Achieve (NJ).

Yue stood out as arguably the best big man in the building. The young post known as Moon was a beast down on the block with his post moves and soft touch, and his ability to get putbacks off of the offensive glass made him practically unstoppable. He didn’t just live in the paint either as he’d often come out on the pick-and-pop and drain the resulting threes. The native of China, who is reclassifying to the Class of 2028, will be at The Phelps School in Pennsylvania in 2024-25. (JT)
