Expert Analysis
Ari Rosenfeld | Prep Hoops Scout
Vigo’s running mate in the backcourt, Blake was dynamic in his own right on his way to a smooth 14 points. Blake helped set the tone during Phelps’ initial onslaught, knocking down an early 3 and getting fouled on another while showing he could rise up and shoot over Malvern’s guards at just about any time. He would show his explosiveness as a driver as the game went on, culminating in a runout tomahawk dunk to shut the door for good in the fourth quarter. Blake’s spurtability as a scorer should bode well for his translation into Hofstra’s free-flowing system.

The other half of one of the more dynamic backcourts in prep school, Blake impressed with 23 points. An explosive lefty, he got himself going by attacking the basket, demonstrating his blazing first step and slippery finishing ability. His barrage of three consecutive 3’s just before the half helped to break the game open, showcasing his ability to create space for his own shot and rise up under control to shoot over smaller guards. Blake profiles as the type of high-octane guard that’s thrived at Hofstra in past years, with the raw talent to potentially move up in levels later on if he continues putting things together.

Blake wasted no time making his presence felt south of the border, pouring in over 30 points in each of Phelps’ season-opening wins while making it clear why he’s regarded as the top unsigned prospect in the state after transferring down from Canada for his senior year. A dynamic three-level scorer, he shows a high-level blend of explosiveness and skill while working toward the rim off the bounce. The southpaw is capable of heating up in a hurry from beyond the arc with a quick release and elevation that allows him to rise up promptly in tight spaces. He uses his size, length, and quickness to bother opposing ballhandlers on the defensive end as well. With mid-majors beginning to prioritize him, Blake should be one of the more productive guards in the national prep school ranks this year with upside to push toward the high-major level with further growth as a lead guard.

Blake got off to a roaring start and never looked back, scoring Phelps’ first 13 points of the game en route to 22 in the opening half and 33 for the game. The Canadian southpaw got himself going from beyond the arc, connecting on three early 3s, seemingly each of increasing difficulty. He showed off his downhill ability with a vicious poster (and another attempted one) in transition while contributing on the other end with his blend of length, twitch, and quickness within the Lions’ stifling pressure defense. His combination of positional size and dynamic two-way ability make it easy to see why several mid-majors have begun prioritizing him since his move from north of the border.

Blake comes down from Canada by way of Polaris Prep with a handful of mid-to-high major programs on his trail. A fluid and well-built combo guard still in the process coming into his own, he’s most natural as a scorer but is growing increasingly more comfortable on-ball with an effective herky-jerky handle and electric scoring ability at each level. The southpaw operates well going downhill with a blend of pace and athleticism, keeping his head up and using his size to make reads over the top of the defense. While he’s still growing as a consistent perimeter shooter and into a more refined decisionmaker from the lead guard spot, the upside is undeniable for the dynamic guard whose brother is already in the D1 ranks at Vermont.
