Expert Analysis
Ari Rosenfeld | Prep Hoops Scout
Thomas has grown accustomed to winning over four years at powerhouse Roselle Catholic (NJ), and now looks to bring his battle-tested skillset across the Delaware River as a post-grad at Phelps. After mostly thriving on the margins as a role player at Roselle, Thomas seized on the opportunity to serve as more ofd a focal point in June’s scholastic live period, getting loose as a primary scorer while showcasing strong slashing ability and a growing arsenal as a pullup shooter out to the perimeter. He plays hard-nosed defense and consistently finds himself around the ball in the floor game. Thomas was also a key piece for a talented NJ Beasts team that made a deep run towards a Made Hoops MHC title. His ability to shift across different roles and contribute to winning in high-level situations make him a prospect to track up to the D1 level throughout the winter.

Thomas makes a living on the interior and consistently finds ways to produce around the basket. He has a knack for converting scoring opportunities in close and does a great job using his size and instincts to put himself in favorable positions offensively. His active motor keeps him engaged throughout the game, allowing him to make an impact even when plays are not being run for him. Thomas also stays active on the glass, using his effort and persistence to come up with rebounds on both ends of the floor. Defensively, his length is a major asset, as it enables him to block shots, generate steals, and create deflections that disrupt opposing offenses. With his combination of interior production, rebounding, defensive versatility, and nonstop motor, Thomas is a prospect who should continue to gain traction at the division two level.

Was effective on the board and capitalizing off of second chance efforts, which led to scoring points. He also showed that he could score with his in-between jump shot. He’s an undersized forward who plays bigger than his size and causes disruption to opposing teams offense. He is a prospect who would be a great addition as a post graduate to a prep school roster. Like the way you can plug him into a rotation and finds ways to stay relevant in the game.

Ultimately thriving off activity and benefiting from a lot of the penetration that Roselle Catholic’s guards produced off the bounce, Thomas converted on a number of quality looks— exploiting defensive help and rotations to receive dump offs from driving guards out of the dunker spot, taking advantage of Roselle Catholic’s defensive pressure as a unit to force turnovers and get ahead of the defense for easy looks at the basket, cutting backdoor in half court actions against over zealous defenders.
