The month of August has seen an update to all of our class rankings, end with the rollout of our updated 2027 ranking this week. See below for a handful of trends and storylines to follow from our look at the rising senior class.

Francis takes hold of #1 position after standout summer

The rise of [player_tooltip player_id='2398422' first='Korey' last='Francis'] began during the winter when the burly combo guard authored a breakout junior campaign that saw him run away with PCL MVP honors, win a state championship, and help establish the Friars firmly within the upper tier of the league moving forward. He's only continued to climb in the time since then, continuing to make subtle but steady improvements to his overall game while repeatedly proving himself in high-level matchups. Francis has earned significant Power 5 interest with his play this summer and at this point looks like the safest bet of any player in the state to impact a game at that level early on. There is also significant upside for him left to tap into if he can continue to grow his skillset and feel as a lead guard.

All things considered, it was impossible to deny Francis the top spot in this update, despite the clear long-term upside in previous #1 [player_tooltip player_id='2397578' first='Jaydn' last='Jenkins'] and the wonderful combination of size and IQ possessed by recent St. Joe's commit [player_tooltip player_id='1454260' first='Silas' last='Graham'].

Plenty of movement within the top 10

Interestingly enough, while there were no newcomers to the top 10 of this update, every prospect within that range except for one saw a change to their ranking after taking stock of everyone's respective summers. The most notable move was made by Francis from #5 to #1, but also significant were the jumps made by [player_tooltip player_id='1406792' first='Zaahir' last='Muhammad-Gray'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2853708' first='Jeremiah' last='Adedeji'] over the course of the summer, elevating them each 5 spots upward and into the top 5 of the class. Uber-talented forward [player_tooltip player_id='2741252' first='Aaron' last='Webb'] holds firm from the last update at the 6th spot while a quartet of guards in [player_tooltip player_id='2452096' first='Ajani' last='Stewart'], [player_tooltip player_id='2206834' first='Caleb' last='Lundy'], [player_tooltip player_id='2532398' first='Caden' last='Ivery'], and [player_tooltip player_id='2364681' first='Marquis' last='Newson'] round out the top 10 despite each seeing slight drops from the previous rankings.

Prospects starting to come off the board with commitments

Coming out of the summer months and with rapid changes across the landscape of college basketball, prospects with options to commit to the next level are wisely starting to jump on those opportunities with college commitments. Four of the top 10 and nine of the top 20 prospects in this update have now come off the board with all but one heading to the D1 level. Small-college commitments tend to skew toward later in the cycle but look for a healthy chunk of the rest of the top 50 to continue solidifying their scholarship-level plans over the course of the coming weeks and months. Some of the recent commits we expect to see be the most impactful include: [player_tooltip player_id='1454260' first='Silas' last='Graham'] (St. Joe's), [player_tooltip player_id='2452096' first='Ajani' last='Stewart'] (Florida Gulf Coast), [player_tooltip player_id='2532398' first='Caden' last='Ivery'] (Cornell), [player_tooltip player_id='2427312' first='Wilson' last='Udo'] (Brown), [player_tooltip player_id='2861780' first='Abdou' last='Diene'] (East Stroudsburg), [player_tooltip player_id='2711261' first='Julien' last='Price'] (Bryant), Nick Lugendo (Sacred Heart), and [player_tooltip player_id='1493066' first='James' last='Brenner'] (Tufts).

Meanwhile the top two prospects in the class remain uncommitted but are in the process of setting up visits and entering decisionmaking mode.

Influx of incoming out-of-state prep school talent

With the state's top prep and independent school programs continuing to raise the competitive bar seemingly each year, this season will see another slew of talented prospects coming in as either post-grads or senior year transfers, some from within the state or region but others from around the country. A majority of those such prospects had yet to finalize their plans by the time of our last update, so they represent a major portion of the top newcomers to this ranking.

[player_tooltip player_id='2711261' first='Julien' last='Price'] (Phelps School), [player_tooltip player_id='1944384' first='Kahlik' last='Thomas'] (Phelps), Geremyah Shaw-Glenn (Perkiomen) [player_tooltip player_id='2421360' first='Tom' last='Diomedi'] (Hill School) are among the out-of-state products who will now be notable members of the state's 2027 class.
