About Abdou
Expert Analysis
Tom Keller | Prep Hoops Scout
He is effective scoring inside and connects on chances frequently. Like how he is in good position for dump-offs. Breaks down the game in 1 on 1 situations and can score using his in-between game. Diene has no problems using his post moves around the block. Seeks out rebounds and lives on the glass. He fills the lane in transition and attacks closeouts with ease. His physicality opens many doors for him as a prospect.

Despite the loss, Diene was the most intriguing prospect on the floor while racking up a double-double of 11 points and 11 boards. The junior forward showed outstanding versatility, doing bits of everything on both ends of the floor. More of a natural post, he’s developed a robust skillset as a comfortable ballhandler and passer from the perimeter with soft touch as a floor-spacer out to 3. He was a sturdy presence defending the paint and showed good pursuit while rising up with strong hands for high-point rebounds. Despite a bigger body, Diene is light on his feet with swift body control as a finisher in traffic. While a bit under the radar and still refining his overall game, he’s one of the more talented forwards in the state with a chance to generate buzz at the D1 level.

Continuing to establish himself as a force to be reckoned with across the Mid Penn and beyond, Diene has played his best basketball throughout this winter while leading Milton Hershey to a 20-2 record and top seed in districts. A burly forward blessed with natural size and strength, he’s gradually built out his skillset over the years to now pose a steady matchup problem as an inside-out threat. Diene is able to use his physical tools to play with force around the basket but also shows enticing skill from the perimeter as both a ballhandler and shooter. His ability to expand his game while continuing to impact winning has him well positioned to make a run at D1 recruitment over the next year.

The Milton Hershey School is already loaded at the guard and wing positions, but with Diene monitoring the paint as their big man, they have a great opportunity at a Mid-Penn title both this year and next. Abdou is a dominant paint player who uses strength and an array of post moves to generate easy buckets. He is an extremely active defender and rebounder who is also a threat to block anything at the rim. It will be fun to watch the Spartans for years to come and Diene is a large reason why.

The upside on this long, and athletic power forward with a solid frame is ridiculous. Diene’s ability to grab a defensive rebound, throw an outlet pass and then run the floor like a gazelle as a lane filler for a finish above the rim is unique. On half-court possessions, Diene will produce points on dives to the cup, post ups and lobs. Plus, Diene is a beast on the offensive glass who can snare an errant shot and then convert through contact. Diene’s agility and hops enable him to frequently dunk on opponent’s heads. On defense, Diene is a fierce shot blocker and cleans the glass.

Last weekend at DMV Live, this long, and athletic power forward with a solid frame showed he owns tremendous upside. Diene glided down the court, so he quickly went rim to rim and contributed on the fast break. On half-court possessions he was a force on the interior. Diene produced points on post ups, lobs and via the offensive glass. He also flashed the ability to score out of pick-n-roll action. In all those scenarios, Diene’s length and leaping ability allowed him to finish over the top of defenders. At the other end of the court, Diene was an intimidating rim protector and dominated the defensive boards. College coaches need to buy in early on Diene because he will develop into a force.
