Expert Analysis
Ari Rosenfeld | Prep Hoops Scout
The leading scorer for GA throughout the year, Brenner was held mostly in check throughout the game but showed his ability during a big third quarter. Looking notably stronger than when we saw him last, he scored 10 of his 14 points in that third frame, using his size and burgeoning strength to work near the rim and get himself going. He was effective dribbling into postups against smaller defenders while also staying active as a cutter and crasher. Known as a shooter, Brenner struggled to find a groove but did flash his touch on a smooth wing 3. His size and ability to thrive in structure should have him on the radar of high-academic programs across levels over the course of the spring and summer.

The newcomer of the year in the league, Brenner made an instant splash for the new-look Patriots after coming in as a repeat junior from Unionville (PA). Averaging over 17 points per game overall and 16.1 in league play, he continued to thrive as a perimeter shotmaker but also showed added wrinkles in his game as the Patriots’ consistent focal point. Brenner was effective putting pressure on the rim as a cutter and rebounder, showing added athleticism as a finisher. He also showed flashes as a playmaker when put in situations to attack advantages off the bounce. Brenner should be on high-academic radars across levels and figures to be the key building block for coach John Cox heading into Year Two with sights on a First Team All-League type season.

Similarly to Brown, Brenner has been a key piece to the rotation since his freshman season and now looks to go out with a bang as a senior while solidifying his recruiting stock in the process. Brenner makes his mark as a high-volume shooter from deep with the size, high release, and court sense to consistently generate space for clean looks within the offense. He shows a blend of skill and IQ while putting it on the ground attacking closeouts with a clear passing feel established from the well-oiled Unionville offensive system. He’s certainly on track for a scholarship with his size and translatable skillset, but whether he’s a true driller or more of a volume shooter, along with his ability to hold up in space defensively, are the key points coaches at the D1 level will be looking at over the course of the next several weeks.

Brenner’s combination of shot-blocking and movement shooting give him positional flexibility and scheme versatility. He alters people’s jumpers out on the perimeter and helps off of his man to clean things up around the rim. On the flip side, Brenner is a chess piece whose three-point prowess can be weaponized in pick-and-roll and dribble-handoffs.

In 2023-24 Brenner was a major part of Unionville’s District 1-5A title team and he already holds offers from Sacred Heart and Bryant University. However, the upcoming season will be the first time this three-year starter has been the No. 1 option for Unionville. Good news, this stretch-4 prospect has the skills to handle that promotion. He proved that back in June at Philly HS Live with a 38-point explosion against Boys Latin (MD). Brenner owns a highly accurate jump shot with deep range. He can also produce points off the dribble as well as via quick post ups and dives to the rim. Plus, Brenner can crash the offensive glass and then power through contact for a second chance bucket. Brenner’s ability to score in transition is often overlooked.
